research and source info. man..that's all i can really say....

the key w/ each of those websites you mentioned, is that you can connect w/ others who (if they like your music) will want to help out....

Myspace is an excellent example of finding others who work for digi. distrib. companies that will promote your music outside of japan..

it also depends on how far you want to reach w/ your music (local? in other territories?)

Organize your promotions and marketing into these basic categories:

1. Street Team - employ a few good looking ladies to hit up the club dj's who use the medium your selling. Your team should have their own custom shirts and be equipped with mucho flyers and posters when they are selling your CD on the street.

2. Internet Team - is broken up into two departments

a. Advertising - compiles an email list of all the radio stations that play hip hop. Compiles another email list of all music stores, mom & pop record shops, etc. If you wanna get signed then compile an email list of record companies. Blast these lists once a week with an email designed by...

b. Design - creates the promotional email equipped with soundbytes, designs the shirts, flyers, posters, etc. Also in charge of webdesign and myspace.

3. Radio/TV/Magazines - if you have anything left over in your budget then these mediums are a great way to advertise as long as you do it strategically. Research each media entity in regards to their subscriber base. Regardless if you are going to advertise on TV or not you need a cameraman who can film you and your crew doing shows, lounging, smoking, taxing broads, etc.

thats all I can think of for now... but remember all the marketing and promotion can only help you get to that next level if...............................................................................................................................

your product is dope.

shows, instores, djs, mixtapes, podcasts, most importantly a good product, just off the top. Rocking shows and or promoting at shows is going to be more effective then the train station IMO. good luck.

im tryin to learn too.. but i guess .... Caz and DopeD are droppin some mad knowledge here...

1) IS IT GOOD? (and be confident)
2) DONT UNDERESTIMATE THE HUMAN NATURE!!!... and i especially go for shows... if u make the hype bar explode at an event... then give away 2-3 mixtapes, its already better 4 u.... then organise ur OWN event... that could be something too! but its more money to invest
