i have a 8 gig computer hard drive from my computer that i upgraded to a 160 gig hard drive is there a way that i can use my 8 gig hard drive for my mpc is there anything that i need to buy has anyone done this? thanks

A few things . . .

To use the hard drive with your MPC (not sure if it is a 2000 or 2000XL), it MUST be SCSI. Anything other than scsi will not work.

Second, the hard drive must be compatible or recognized by the MPC.

Third, the hard drive will be used externally and not internally. This means you will need to use the scsi port on your MPC. Put the hard drive in an external enclosure with scsi ports. The external hard drive will be connected to the MPC scsi port using either a 25pin or 50 pin scsi cable, depending on the MPC being used.

Find out first if the 8GB hard drive is a scsi one.

Hard drives can be scsi, at, ide, udma, etc. so verify and confirm it is a scsi hard drive.

search for scsi enclosures on ebay.

Look at any information on the drive such as Brand and Model no., and use the search engine to see what additional information it will return. This may tell you if it is scsi, ata, udma, etc.

If it has 50 pins, most likely it is SCSI. IDE drives typically have 40 pin connectors.

Yes, this is true. But then you need to determine whether it is compatible -or- recognized by your sampler. Not all scsi drives will be regcognized.

Also true. And if its an 8G drive, chances are its an older drive, but then again so are most of our MPC 2K(xl)s.

So you found out it was not scsi. For a second there it almost sounded like it was scsi when you mentioned it was 8GB and 50pin. try searching on ebay. use keywords akai scsi drive
