60-II data entry knob replacement/self repair?

My 60-II data wheel jumps all over the place when I turn it. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement knob or how I might be able to fix it myself w/o buying a new pot? I know I could probably send it to Forat for service, but would prefer to save some money. Couldn't find what I need in the links under "Parts/Services" in the "MPC 60 Bible" and a general search for "data entry knob" in the 60/3000 forum returned 170 results. Any help would be much appreciated.

A 60 knob that's a tough one to fix yourself I think.

Opened it up last night, popped the knob off, and put a few drops of Caiglube on the contact point between the ball bearing and the copper strip. It works a lot better--not jumping--but there's still a dead spot in the rotation. I might try to replace it if I can find the part--it's only connected by three soldered wires, so it shouldn't be too difficult. If I find a replacement knob I'll post the link.

That's easy then if it's jsut soldering like the XL.

i just got a replacment for my 3k from him

Both Forat and VST carry the part. It's actually a 3000 potentiometer (Bruce referred to it as an encoder), so you have to solder the wires to different pins. It is $48 through Forat and $61 through VST.
