Autochrome?

I've only had my 4k for a few days now. I've figured out mostly everything on the main page, seq. edit, step edit, got the q-links working, figured out how to zone and slice my samples, got Ak.sys working with no problemo. However I cannot find autochrome. I know it's a stupid question, and it's probably very easy but I just spent 20 min. trying to figure out how to do it.

I'm coming from 1k land where we don't have autochrome, but from my understanding it is like 16 levels except the sample is spread out chromatically throughout all 6 pad banks. Well this is what I want to do...and I dunno!

do you just want it to go across a keyboard (controller)??
if so you have to go to the programs page and create or convert a program into a keygroup

16 Levels tuning is what you want. Click 16 levels, and if you see "Assign:Velocity," you'll wanna change it to "Assign:Tuning." Press the pad you want then click F6 and you're good to go.

Note: you get the same octave on all the Pad Banks

16 levels isn't quite what I'm looking for. We have that in 1k land so I'm familiar with it.

I want different octaves spread across all the pad banks like as if the pads were a keyboard. Can it do that?

Ok I did the conversion no problem...where do I go from there?

Since I don't have a keyboard controller I would like the same sound spread across all 96 pads like a big keyboard. With the same sample layed out just like it would be on a keyboard, and with the different pad banks representing different octaves ( I think that's how it would work). Is this clearer?

There's no autochrome setting that I know of. I don't know if there's an easier way to do this, but if you want a sample chromatically across the pad banks this is how I would do it.

Change the Type from "Drums" to "Keygroup." Next, you need to reassign the pads so that they're chromatically correct. So, from whatever octave you want to start from press Program->F6 (Assign) and put them numerically in order. Then press F2 (KG Mix) find your sample and press F3 (Pitch), from there you can change the span from "x>x" (x being whatever pad the sample is on) and change it to "0>127" (if you have multiple samples--experiment with the numbers if you borrow/buy a midi controller to get a pitch range for each sample). Finally, where it says Pitch (Zone1), change it from "CONST" to "TRACK" and you’re good.

Ok I've tried it! It kinda works the way I want it to. I got the same sound spread out over all the pads in different pitches. It was pretty simple I guess! However they weren't in chromatic order. The pitches were all over the place.

I didn't get the part about ordering the pads in chromatic order though. Especially if I'm just wanting to use that one sample! Yeah, I'm lost on that part!

I got the part about going to KG mix and changing the span and switching from CONST to TRACK. That pretty much spread the sample over all 96 pads, but I still don't get how to put it in chromatic order.

Another question! OK, for example, say I got this shit figured out, everything laid out across the pads in chromatic order. Aiight, the different pitches effect the length of the sample. Higher pitch = shorter sample. Is there a way to do this same thing without affecting sample length?

Also is there a way to make the 4k sustain a sample in the pad? Or is that basically the loop function? Like say if I have a piano note on a pad, and I want that note sustained for as long as hold the pad like a sustain pedal on a piano...can the 4k do that? If not, could I do this with a midi controller keyboard...like say a M-Audio Radium?

Sorry if these questions are stupid...I'm still just trying to figure out what the 4k can and can't do!

hit the pad assign and switch the pad assignment to chromatic

your going to have to manually loop it or edit the envelopes just like you would do in any other sampler
