Recording

What would be the best and easy way to multitrack all of my work on a budget?
Should I just get a interface and track it in my cool edit, or should I go with something like fostex MR8?

Please share some of your thoughts.

i think it depends on you if you like to record in to your pc, or use out board gear, me personally i use out board gear i'm not to fond of computer gear,

only way it really makes sense to be multitracking to a PC is if you have a really good interface with really good AD/DA converters. Its less of a hassle using hardware multitracker somtimes but also has less expandability and options then good software....

yeah if you have the gear to dress up your beats with out board gear you shouldnt have a problem , but yeah i think a good ad/da converter is the key to recording to your pc.

me to ,i m having fun with my outboard gear, would nt trade it for anything...

I recomend the M Box. Cheap and very very effective.

mbox isnt good for multitracking..Is maybe a low cost soundcard solution but I assume BKnyc is looking for at least 8 tracks cause thats what the fostex has.

I am not a pro tools user. But I think what jonloc is saying if you get the mbox I beleive you get a copy of pro tools le. That is 24 or 32 tracks on your computer plus all that LE offers. It is the same as price range as a fostex 8 track recorder. Now as your self about if your computer is up to par processor and ram wise. You can run into situations if you dont have an adequate system.

yeah I hear that. I am rockin the Fostex mr-8 for $299. It has only two tracks it can recorded to, but has cool features like mastering effects for the stereo bus, and usb to a computer and ish. Its cool. I want to get a akai dps12 though and get like 8 inputs at once.

With only 128 ram, 733mhz P3, and 40 gigs, I think I should rethink about 001, mbox, etc..
I think I'm gonna go with the fostex MR8 for the time being. I never heard one bad review on that piece so I think I will be good with it.

How is the learning curve for the MR8? and can you save as wav files for later use in protools and such?

i am recording going from stereo outs from my mpc into my soundblaster extigy, then out the soundblaster and into cool edit pro.

the quality of the actual sound conversion is perfect, zero distortion, the only thing that ive noticed is that its just lower sounding than it is on the pc, but that doesnt matter because i can increase the volume if need be, because volume levels change in mixdown anyway.


how would i benefit from an ad/da converter?

its really easy to learn. Its a good piece of gear. YOu can transfer waves right onto the PC through USB. You can goto www.fostex.com and they have a file manager for it.

dont get the mr-8. you will want to expand a week later. Get the delta 1010lt sound card. 10 inputs and outputs and midi. You can get that for cheaper.
