A/D D/A converter. Audio Research makes some nice gear, Adcom had some stuff in the day.

not meaning anything by it > still in the market for a HD recorder, thought that an additional unit on the output would convert. if Roland can't > my cat's Yamaha does the trick through a Bryston unit. dang : might have me reconsider that line and i thought it was just too expensive!

Why not just work in 44.1

According to the Roland guide we have either send the signal out to an computer program as a wave file and dither down and then import the file back into the VS series or record strictly at 44.1kHz coming into the VS series. I have been basically using the 44.1kHz to save the trouble until Roland has a upgrade or plug-in to do the work for me. I saw that converter but was it 7 grand? I could buy 2 MPC 4000s for that price. I think that 96kHz and 48kHz are great for recording on the MPC just a little lost fidelity going to the Multitrack at 44kHz.

thanks for the Roland info, there are so many recorders out there right now that i'm want to make the right choice.

so it's a WAV format that it converts huh? makes sense. i haven't really been into a lot of software so that's a new arena for me. my friend's yamaha minidisc 4-track runs through a Bryston ADAC prior to being burned on a CD cause of the compression ratios, but that's just 44.1 so he didn't need anything more than that.
