EMU Phatt Rack module

IS it possible to use this with the MPC directly or do you definitely need a Keyboard ? I wanted to make better basslines and someone is selling one . Wanted to make sure before I got it.

you can hook modules up to the mpc via midi and use the pads but it'll be harder to play things out with just the pads. its possible though....

but if you're planning on dealing with modules and such, i would definately invest in a cheap midi keyboard. really, any keyboard that has midi i/o should work. i've been using this cheap kawai kc-20 keyboard for years and its done its job. it will make things easier on you in the end.

thru is not necessary but really helpful when you have multiple midi devices and not enough places to plug them in

You can get for no more than $100 a external MIDI device with usually +/- 4in / 4 outs. It's great to have.
I got a good deal on guitarcenter for a MOTU 128 Midi Express 8ins/8outs for $112 out the door.
Good investment if you intend to upgrade your studio with time.

What about a Midi controller keyboaard ? Can I use that with the sound module and not have any connection to a computer ? I'm confused about that since most times when the controller is referred to it is associated with a computer connection.

I was going to post some advice but I think going the route of something like the proteus x2 would be more of a benefit. Just compare the two (hardware vs s/w), at least you won't get stuck with the same 'ol boring soundset using s/w.

well here's the thing I want to bypass using computers period , until maybe the mastering process which I would let other people handle , This is just for a really basic hardware set up. I've been searching for a really cheap keyboard but I'm getting impatient and thinking what about a midi controller to use with sound modules ? Is that possible or do I have to have a computer for that ?

Computer literacy goes a long way these days my friend. Of course you don't need a computer to use with your module, but it's a plus if you do. And for the midi controller, are you after a 14, 25, 49 key model or what? There's a few things to consider if you're going to go this route. When I got started, I was a little cocky on buying gear. I got a lot of useless sh!t because I did'nt do my homework. If I knew what I know now, things would have been a whole lot better today (not saying they're not ok now, just different). Here's a little cliche I wanted to share...I'd say this is the start of your journey. You're the only one that has the map. And on that map it states you must thoroughly educate yourself before the journey begins or do so during it's course. Failure to do so will lead you to a giant maze that's hard to get out of.
