aight, so, im getting the mpc1000 in about a week. i really know nothing about it. i plan on readin the manuel and just messing around with the basics for a long ass time before i can actually do somethin cool. im just wondering, how do you get snare, kicks and hats sounds. i know the mpc flash card comes with some, and you can buy some. i was thinkin takin a drum pattern from a song and choppin it up would work right? any other options as to how to get a bigger library of sounds on the mpc? do most people buy their sounds?

Dig for records. You'll find all kinds of cool drums.

aight thats what i figured... and then just chop em up and single out the snare/kick/hat and i can replay it how i want?

Yes. You're best bet is to find parts on records where it's just the drums by themselves with no other instruments playing, then you can chop these up and isolate the parts and play them back how you want them to sound.

damn koncept, nice shit. ill definately go there when i get my mpc. also, how many little "sounds" can the mpc hold on the 128 mb ram upgrade (just curious)

ram allows you to process information and do tasks, it is not a storage medium. You need to get a new flash card for that, i think standard it comes with 32 mbs not much, but you can get a 1 gig for like 20 bucks at a local radio shack, or something along th0se lines.

the 128 ram holds like 24 minutes mono, 12 minutes stereo, so it depends on how long the samples last and whether they are stereo or not. but if a kick drum sample lasts like 2 seconds, imagine how many you can fit in 24 minutes
