There is also the possibility of building a battery pack from a set of AA's. Though the battery capacity would likely be less dense than a nicely fitted solid form factor pack.

A backlight switch would save battery time and would be another suggested mod.

Another idea would be to remove the PSU from the MPC completely and put it in an external box. This along with removing the unused HD cage would allow for a lot of room in the MPC for a battery back (and possibly a transformer for stepping up the voltage depending on the battery used).
