i think mayb you've just outgrown the MPC nym.

I mean, the level of control you want is probably a lot easier to achieve in something like logic, tools or ableton.

What do you find appealing about the MPC?

why do you say that? i mean these features are here, after all, it's just that i'm using them. i'm not pushing the mpc to its limits or anything.

there are certain things that are easier with reaper/protools/logic/etc but that's a completely different story

but for building a groove and a lean, a bounce or whatever movement i want to create, actually sequencing a drum track in reaper/protools/logic is not nearly as easy or intuitive as in the mpc. in short, i'd just never come up with the same sounds. my beats would sound 100% different.

i've not outgrown the mpc - i'm just using what's there. what comes in the daw comes in the daw, and the final beat is different because of it.

Great explaination but seems like it comes with a hidden agenda. Sounds like your trying to convince everyone to go with midi grid editing "your favorite". It would be very unfornate to scrap the other forms of editing each one has it's purpose.

Anyone who is unfimilar with editing on the MPC, the girl-friend comment, should really revaluate their spendings. And or atleast should define the acronym MPC.

I don't know my machine fully yet, but I try to use it as thoroughly as possible. Nobody should be dumbfounded by this explanation of midi and grid editing.

it's my favorite for many reasons, all of which were clearly (and exhaustively!) laid out. there is no hidden agenda, and i'm a little irritated by the suggestion.

as for each form having its purpose, i would say this: 6 pad grid edit, 16 pad grid edit and midi grid edit all have somewhat similar purposes.

16 pad grid: visibility (16 pads at 1 time)
6 pad grid: groove control (EDIT time control over 6 pads viewed simultaneously)
midi grid edit: a synthesis of both. (complete visibility, EDIT time control over all recorded notes.

for that reason, it can be said that midi grid edit covers the other two, like a beach umbrella over two of those little paper parasols you get in mixed drinks. properly implemented, 16 pad grid edit could be made to more functionally resemble midi grid edit - not in the actual display of the notes in piano roll form, but most DEFINITELY the zoom/tc thing could be addressed.

Oh, so I must have read wrong when you suggested scraping grid editing.

i probably wasn't too clear, caught up in the excitement of the moment

i think grid edit could "learn from" midi grid edit. especially with that whole Zoom IN/OUT thing. i really am impressed by how that works independently of TC in midi grid. this is of crucial importance, and it's SORELY missing in grid edit.

i do think the two could reasonably be combined in a sense...and that people would be thrilled about it. as usual though my head is in the clouds and i'm just imagining.
