as mentioned above, my mpc is seizing up asif ive massively overloaded the sequencers realtime playback engine, i mean that its behaving as though its got many more events to play than are actually there. it plays them in os484 fine, but 485 has real problems coping with the sequences.

ive got a sequence running, only a few tracks. a few events in each.
and when i mute them all, the 'voice(polophony) counter' - in Other Page (mode+pad10) clocks up to way over 20!. with nothing actually playing.

i'm assuming that the voice counter isnt supposed to count voice use when no voices are 'used' right?

This has to do with the track mutes, to be able to have an "immediately unmute" the voice have to play even when muted, like muting the audio output from that voice. Now he fixed the "bug" muted events muting other events when set to mono (still with me?), but that has to be some strange workaround i guess.

P.Mode is very useful. the tap tempo part i could live without, since there is already a button dedicated to that. no big deal.

but now we have lost the ability to move around within a sequence via the pads. this was a great feature for live use. you could program in different variations within your sequence, and then jump all around within it using the pads. you could totally improvise a new beat on the fly, change the time signature, change the whole feel of the rhythm, & get all sorts of funky effects just by playing the pads. now that is gone.

i thought we were mostly in agreement on what we thought we could live without: splashscreens, real-time pitch shift on the input, and old program mode. that's alot of stuff he could pull out. instead he removes this useful feature & is now starting to reduce the functionality of the os. not cool. :(

I can't front. I totally slept on this feature but since you mentioning it, I totally checked it out and WOW!

What an awesome thing for live transport manipulation!! What a terrible move taking this out!

I will definitely NOT be upgrading until this is put back!!!!

no, not sure what u mean, but ive had a minor breakthrough, and im a bit miffed to find out it was 95% human error, i had many of my amp envs set to 100/end !! a recipe for disaster, only ok if u aint looping the samples - ahem. but i had loop on all of 'em. phew......but the fact remains that the os 485 plays the sequences worse, ie: it seizes up much quicker than in os 484.

note: i figured i'm often a bit of an untidy worker mostly due to geting wild ideas down before i hammer rigid controls on the method in which i created the ideas, because demo fever sets in as your left with an overly neatened version - and sometimes a more lifeless example of the first flashes of inspiration....but in this case its worth the effort to go in after the main blast is done, and strip fat off whats not needed (ie: 100/end amp env's on any/all sounds - and not JUST the ones that need it), i reckon ive been abusing the global prog edit "whole" button. so in future it'll be all set to very eco programming, then widen out ONLY where its absolutely required.

but soz for bleeting on about the bogus bug i thought i had.

one more thing though - why does the voice/poly meter show voices used even when all tracks are muted. in this way its only showing the overall maximum voices needed IF you've got all tracks on at the same time.
it would be more appropriate (imho) to have it monitoring the voice use at the very last stage of the voice allocation (ie: only voices that are truly playing) no?

the voices ARE playing. the volume is just muted, like rinseout was trying to say.

with mute/stop is set to immediate, when you mute a track, all it does is mute the sound on that track. notes are still played which takes up voices. this is so that you can unmute the track immediately mid-sample rather than having to wait for the next note on event. that's the way that it should be.

are you saying every track is played, even if it's muted, if set to imediate? this can't be true. i muted all tracks and i have 0 samples playing. then i unmute the kick-track and it shows 1 sample. no samples playing if they're on a muted track. so everything looks just fine here...

yo, thanks guys - props rinseout et al, thats great news, less confusion, i couldnt work out why i was registering double the voices used.......and all because of the 'immediate' setting.

i use it on and off, equally, but its totally cleared my problem up!!

and i understand the need for it to behave like that, but it hadnt occurred to me at all....ps how did u know that? is it written anywhere?

so instead of 8-15 voices for a peice...its half that with immediate 'off'.

im still gonna stick with os484, i dont like the removal of the pad mode Fkey.

i allways thought this was a very powerful tool..... and i don't see whats been put into the OS memory space that the removal has created.

yeah, its fly...
and true, there are dedicated transport buttons for stepping thru the seq's.
and dedicated buttons for selecting modes.

in that case then, what did pad mode do that couldnt be done already....?

1. t.c. change - in one stroke..

you must be mistaken. you probably have mute/stop set to through.

i just loaded up the 2500 OS 5.37 which is the latest, and i loaded just a hi-hat to a single pad. i made a single track with only the hi hats triggered and checked the voices. with mute/stop set to immediate it shows one voice being triggered whether the track is muted or not. with mute/stop set to through, it shows one voice triggered only if the track is unmuted, but none if the track is muted.

bug fixes take code space. that's probably why he removed pad mode.
