I overwrite files... works fine, better jj than sorry?

Hi MPC'ers, I am very familiar that the "save bug" and "create new folder bug" lurk in some of the dopest beats that one could make. Ever since I bought the 2500, before even knowing about the bug I have overwritten all of my work with the same file name Etc... Never had a problem. For some it never comes up at all like myself. For others it happens every time. After reading horror stories all over this site, I am paranoid now, thanks. Is there a possibility that I will never see it? I dunno. So I decided I am now going to do either the work around, or get the jjos. Or maybe I'll just wait until it happens then pull my teeth out with pliers. What do you guys say?

i dont get y peps have such a prob with saving like this.

i find it helps me in the long run if i have 10 diff versions of my project, so i can go back to various saves and restore the track to its correct state before I messed it up, by overkill.

I agree. I've mentioned it in other posts that I have my projects labeled as: BEAT 100A, BEAT 100B, BEAT 100C, etc.

That way if I save a project late a night, and wake up the next morning and realize that I didn't like the changes, like perhaps, mixing levels, I could go back to the pervious save.

It's like having an undo feature.

Saving in new folders is sensible, I can't disagree with that. You do change your mind after saving.

But sometimes I change something small in a sequence, and it seems stupid to save the entire project's samples and programs just because of a small change. I can't afford to overwrite the allsequences file for fear of corrupting files. I could rename the existing file first I guess, but can anyone be sure the bug doesn't happen when saving a file in a non-empty folder?

The essential problem here is that any bug which could destroy work should be considered important enough to get fixed immediately. We shouldn't have to have this discussion.

I agree with what you all said, that's just how I've always made beats. Make somthing dope, overwrite it. I find if I keep making copies of the same beat it bogs me down going through it all later. I just sort of give it the devil may care attitude. It keeps my workflow up. No problems making another folder before I start working on a beat though. I agree that Akai needs to get off their ass pronto about a fix though. WTF with that!

Yes, of course. But that's not the case here; I'm sure AKAI knows about it, but they haven't done anything about it yet. So it looks as if you'll just have to do the simple work-around until then.

Are you speculating that the bug is there or do you know from personal experience?

I always create new folders because that is what I am comfortable with. My son overwrites files but never has problems.

Pure speculation. I have never encountered it personally. Would it be correct to say that all MPC 2500's have this bug with the Akai O.S., or is it more of a random bug?

You will have to pose that question to people that use the Akai OS.

Just out of interest Jahrome, what media are you saving to? CF FAT, CF FAT32 or HDD FAT32.

I format my CF cards and hard drive using the MPC...which is recommended....

Hey guys, I have struck this bug several times and its always my favorite tracks! Never the average throw away beats. Soul destroying stuff.

So now I just delete everything in the folder and do a save entire memory. It takes a little longer but it has never failed me. I would REALLY like just to be able to save by overwriting everything, that would be wicked.

So my question is does the JJ os allow you to do that? If so which version?

I'm currently running the free one.
