NO--just get a SMALL flat head screwdriver that you would use for a watch and use it to push the 47 pin all the way back. Its on the top left side of the drive the drive. The second on from the left. Again, the second one from the left. Push it all the way in and insert the drive and presto it'll work like a charm. I didnt have any trouble doing this mod and it worked like a charm. You def. cant beat the price.

I actually got a form for a free cd burner when I bought mine from Guitar Center...Still waitin for it tho, I just sent it out bout 3 weeks ago. They say that it could take up to 12 weeks to get it but hey it came free so I cant complain...
