Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By 1352 Mon Sep 17, 2007 2:37 pm
hello , i was wondering about this, and didnt know if i shouldve asked somebody personal or just open a tread
didnt found anything about it with 'search'

The only thing that I actually would like to see in a new OS is a chopping function (in TRIMmode) like there is on the 2000XL..

does anybody know about this ?
or if I can use the 2000xl OS?

thx

I think a lot of people would like to see a new OS for the 2000.

The XL OS won't work though.

The chop function is overrated I think though...If you don't have it it probably seems great to have but I find myself still chopping manually a lot though...

Otherwise just keep an eye out for a good deal on an xl and get rid of that 2000.

it says somewhere on his site that whilst a 2000 os update is feasible he has no plans to do so, same for the guy that did the 3000 os update

hehe thanks for the advice reck (got the same answer from you via wasteland), and jelly jim

Its a fact that this a question of lazyness to be honest ;) the chopping would just go waaay faster for real long samples. ( ahh the weed ...)

but, can it be so hard ,to just add that function to OS1.72,and leave the rest like it was?? I dont know anything bout programming so Im just wondering

if i get a good shot at a XL with effectsboard and 8output,upgraded ram and stuff I might do it (though I wouldnt like to sell my 2000 cause I bought it from Krewcial. but he does keep on gettin older ,a few lines in the screen fromtime to time,left-cursor sometimes not working perfect, just as f6 .. ))

I know of an xl for sale for 650 with no eb or no 8 outs though (max ram, internal zip drive, a bunch of zip disks) in case you might be interested...

I don't think it's that hard to add a chop function to the OS (I'm a programmer by the way), but somebody has got to take the time and do it. Plus I don't know if the code is available somewhere or how hard it is to get a hold of.

And if the screen is getting some lines on it, you might wanna consider selling it while the screen is still working...

Just my 2 cents here...

i hav a 2000xl internal zip drive, with expanded ram, the 8 audio outs, and the fx board that i wanna sell. i dont use it since i got the 500, but i still love the 2000xl, its in great shape. if u would be really interested let me know.

Yea i still have to clean up each slice. Auto chop is completely overrated.

yo thanks for the replies

I know you have to clean up every slice, but at least you got your slices allready,ah well a question of discipline I guess

650 is a nice price,damn but ..
for the moment I began studying again after working a year, so I dont feel for it to occupy me with selling, and buying such things, it will distract me way too much.. I got about what I want for now,(just a new PC-soundcard maybe ;) )
and new jersey is too far, dont trust the machine to be transported such a long way, appreciate the offer very much though ;)

Ill figure it out somehow,as long as i can still make beats..
It does get me frustrated realising that my mpc is getting older and older ..
maybe by the time i graduate theres a 5000 or a 4000XL or sumthin' ;) :D
dont know ,will see
thank you very much for the answers to my question

noooooo

why? i mean, yea there's a few more features...but forget that..if you find a good deal, keep the 2000 and cop the xl.

as far as a new os, there's been a few threads about this before. i dont think its gonna happen. unless some dude has the time/will to code the new os, i just dont see it happening. and i also agree about the chop feature. seems like you could get more accurate doing it manually.

i love chopping on the 2000 its so easy.... if i were to add a feature to the 2000 os it would be either the ability to have more than just the 2 standard notes that can be cut off by 1 pad.

Damn i would luv to to see an OS upgrade for the 2000xl, i mean a lot of people still use the 2000 and xl and with it;s popularity i think it deserves an attempt. All i would need is an upgrade in how many zones could be chopped and how many pads could be muted and i'll be good...but then again i dont' know s*** when it comes to OS upgrades it just might be too difficult to do...

You have basically the same machine with more features (zones, folders,...). I don't really see the point in keeping a 2000 and an xl. Also he stated that his screen is starting to die...Also that you can very easily fit a card reader in the xl. It's a lot harder on the 2000.

True about that 2 pad mute limit.
