Harddrive speed when accessing it...

I have a 7200 rpm 80gb Hd installed in my 2500, what I wanted to know is if anyone else has the slow speed thing when trying to access it.The memory card seems to fly where as the drive takes about 5 seconds to get to.
Could it be that the 2500's processor is slow and it's taking more energy to access the Hd or is there anyone's Hd that reacts just as quick as the memory card, is this a defrag issue. It's not that big of a deal but obviously if it can be faster,I'd like it to be... Thanks please share your thoughts...

the HD is delayed because it takes a second or two to get up to speed. It needs time to get spinning. The flash memory doesn't spin so it's ready to go, hence no waiting time. That's why when you enter LOAD mode you hear the HD 'turn on' and start spinning, then when it reaches speed, it can be accessed.

what about mounting. it also takes time to show up on the computer
screen 3 min. sometime??

it needs time to cache all the files on the HD...i mean it's a small inconvenience, no big deal

that could be cuz it's only usb 1.0 having 120gb hdd is a large area for the pc to scan at the speed rate of usb 1.0 provides. there is also seek amount of time for everyhard drive.


just checked on my 2500, 80gb/5400rpm hdd, 1gb used space took 30 seconds to mount.

i should've stayed at 100 gigs

I dont think it's a biggie, pack a bowl or two and toke up while it's mouting ya know.

but it hit me just now that this is prolly why hard drives recommended by akai dont exceed 20-40gb range. i'm guessing
