Could somebody run me through the process of making an audio track with a midi track. I just recently found out this is a feature on JJOS but I'm not sure how it works. I want to be able to assign a sample to the audio track that is basically the sound loop from my keyboard to the mpc but I'm not quite sure how it works.

What I do is I'll record the midi notes to a regular midi track on the MPC and make sure it's playing back correctly.

Then, for me I have my R3 direct into the analog-inputs on the MPC so I just flip over to track 57-64, go into MODE>RECORD and select analog as the source. Selecting your source in the Record screen also sets your source for audio tracks.

Then just hit REC+PLAY and as it plays back your sequence it will record your keyboard audio to the audio track and you can delete or mute the original MIDI track.

A lot of times though my keyboard patch will have some sustain or release at the tail end of the sequence though, which will give you an abrupt sounding loop point at the end of the audio track. What I do to get around this is before I record the audio track, I'll add an extra bar to the sequence length and then record. Then after the audio track is recorded I'll bump the sequence length back down to the original bar count and this seems to help the sample loop more seamlessly.

Really, though, you don't even have to do this from the audio track screen. You can just record a sample like usual of your keyboard sequence (just press play while in the record screen) and assign it to an audio track, or just set it to a program and trigger it from the pad. (I usually do this because I don't like having to switch to pad bank D to mute/un-mute my audio tracks while in the track mute screen)

good looks dvs. it doesn't quite answer my question but gives me enough information to go experiment with a few things, I think I can figure it out from here.

what didn't I explain? I'll try to help some more

I guess maybe I misunderstood the question

How I've always done midi tracks as samples is to solo the midi track and plug the audio out of the machine being sampled into the sampler ins of the mpc then go to mode + record press record then press play. The problem was I ended up having to trim the file to adjust for latency and everything so it was kind of a pain.

So I thought that with the audio tracks option it would make this process easier. It sort of sounds like it.

What I was looking for was like a step by step process of how to do it like

1. do this

2. do that

3. etc.

I have it mostly figured out, just wanted to make sure I was doing it right

Being new to the MPC, this seems like a way I want to incorporate my MPC into my studio.

Could this same practice take place using Reason or another sound source?

I would want to do something like:

MIDI OUT from keyboard controller to MIDI IN on MPC
MIDI OUT from MPC to MIDI IN on Computer

SP/DIF out from Computer to SP/DIF IN on MPC

so I could control the sequencing and essentially make the MPC the master and have the MIDI and ultimately the Audio end up on the MPC

btw, sorry if this if off topic, not trying to hi-jack your thread ;)

still got any questions lithion? or did you figure it out for the most part

you may not be trying to, but you just did... Laughing

sorry ;)

but it's still kinda in the same subject... and if someone replied with there confirmation of their setup, it could shed some light on your questions / methods.

so in a round-about way, I was lookin' out for ya.
