External hard drive for MPC 2000XL

I Have an MPC2000XL and I still use 1.44mb floppy disks so sometimes I have over 30 disks for one beat. I am looking into an external hard drive on some sort but there are so many options. Anyone with any advice or knowledge about plese fill me in.

you have a few options...you can go with either scsi drive smaller than 8 gigs i believe, or there is the ever so popular zip drive ,card reader etc...

Yeah I've been looking at zip drives. The main one I'm looking at is a IOmega external SCSI Zip 100MB, but I don't know whats best or what other options I should be looking into. Do you have a preference or something you use that has been reliable? Thanx

If you are still using floppy disks, then either the 100MB or 250MB scsi zip drive, would be a good upgrade option. Also, there is always the external 9.1GB hard drive option, which will give you huge storage capacity. And then you have the card reader option, the problem here is finding one and at an affordable price.

In all cases, always remember in all cases to backup your work.

I went to mpcstuff.com and found a MCD card reader kit but I'm still trying to figure out what option is better for me.

Well, dunno what kind of computer you have and if it has a SCSI interface but basically if you get a card reader it'll cost you about 10$ or something for an usb card reader for you pc. If you don't have a SCSI interface on your pc, that 'll probably cost you more. Changing cards seems also simpler than hooking up a hard drive. All a matter of taste and setup though.

How much do the flash cards typically cost and how well they work with the 2000xl?

If you have the cash, get a card reader and a few 1 gig cards, buy more as needed.

If you are strapped for cash, get an external ZIP 250

If you're broke, go do some dirt and get an external ZIP 100 (what I use on my classic)

End of story.

What it comes down to is you are using a storage medium that per disk is less than 1.5 MB. Even a ZIP 100 is going to feel like an insane upgrade when you're working with floppys, and in my opinion, unless you actually have a need for THAT MUCH storage space, why would you spend the money on the external HD or the card reader, really?

I have the 2kxl MCD which is great as far as storage limits but still I am thinking about getting my hands on an external SCSI HD to use it as a standalone backup unit. Any suggestions on how much I should pay the most for a 9.1 GB?

I'm gonny try this aswell...Found an external SCSI drive at work a couple of weeks back. Need to bring that home tonight.

Yeah I've also been looking at these SCSI ZIP and hard drive combo units. I'm not really strapped for cash but they are expensive. Has anyone used these, and if so how reliable are they?

I just bought a Cd-rom hard drive combo unit but I'm still trying to figure out the kinks. I suspect i need a terminator for it.

OMG! Buy a gun and put an end to your misery! That or card reader. Keep the gun for when you're backing all those disks up though...
