Not if your making a "rough mix" for your beat. Meaning when your beat is recording on the computer it is one track. When in a "real" studio it pays off to have each sound tracked out in the software. For those of you that don't have any options for a midi connection some people make a one bar snare sequence at the beginning of their beat. That ways when layerng more tracks to the computer you have the snares at each start as a reference to line the tracks up. Then simply delete the snares. Once the initial sync is done midi is way easier in the long run.
