So...I've had my MPC for about 5 years and some of the buttons (undo and now erase) have sort of fallen into the mpc.
My main problem is that now when I press record or overdub, it says "hold down the notes you want to erase" meaning that it engages the erase function and I can't record any new sequences....
Apparently Guitar Center doesn't do repairs anymore---what should I do?

Have you tried removing the face plate to see what the problem is?

Maybe it's not that bad. Maybe you just need to get new buttons.

Taking a look inside will give you a better idea I would say.

those buttons are cheap, tear it open and see what the problem is. Check http://www.mpcstuff.com/mpc.html for parts. You probably have the button activating itself since it is broken and falling into the case slightly

thanks. But i'm really nervous even opening it. How do I take the top off, I can only seem to get half of it off--the lower half is still attached.
Also, what am I looking for? I mean, I just don't understand how the record button is triggering erase

It gives you a step by step sequence. You can thank monophonic for this incredible work, he posted it in the FIX YOUR DEAD PADS section.

Compare the buttons and see what might be wrong or different. I think it will be quite obvious...
