USB HD

What is the deal with having a USB connection that can only be used to read the Flash cards. Will there ever be an OS update or something so that we can use our own external HD's or would this go against the contract AKAI obviously have going with the people who make the cards.

The deal is that to make a transfer via the USB you need one master and one slave. The master is the one who controls the data flow.

The USB on the MPC, has actually nothing to do with the MPC. It's just a simple USB CF card reader that is inside the MPC box. That CF card reader is a slave. The USB HD are slaves too. So you end up trying to connect 2 slaves together which will never work because they are not able to control the data flow.

with 2GB card support, the HD would be superfluous.

IMO, 2GB is too much. I'm always paranoid about loosing the card or corrupting the data on the card. So I buy smaller card like, 512 or even 256MB. That way, if something happens to one of the small card, it will certainly hurt less then loosing 2GB of tracks at once.

Don't get a card too big as CF cards seem to be guaranteed for about 100.000 or so write/read cycles. You should really consider them as kind of expendable items...
2 Gb cards are very expensive, and have the same lifecycle as the smaller ones...

get an audio interface if you want to be able to do more

hehe people can be so paranoid sometimes. its the same thing as hard drives or anything else for that matter. all data will eventually corrupt.

...if you're that paranoid (which might be a good thing) then you'll probably be backing up via usb anyway...
