Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By jellyjim Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:50 am
Well neither are named as such and the 8 out card has no mounting hardware and I need an IDE extension cable for it but sure enough my MPC2000 recognises them and they work/

They both came out of an Akai S3000XL (with failing backlight) that I got for £60! The S3000XL still works with both removed too so if I get the backlight fixed I've got a nice multi-sampler too!

The point of this post? None, just showing off

Ooh I forgot. The S3000XL came with a SCSI ZIP and a SCSI Yamaha CD-RW

Nice hint! So what you're saying is that those boards that came with the s3000 are compatible with the 2kxl. Nice...How about the boards from an s1100? Cause you know I also need to get these two inside my lady!

Thats a good tip.
Do you know if the backlight LCD screen is compatible with the MPC 2000 as well?

I can only say for definite that the boards that came with my S3000XL (note XL not the S3000) work in my MPC2000 classic. Although the normal EB16 and IB-M208P are interchangeable between the classic and XL so I would be very confident these two boards would work in an XL.

I'm not sure what's inside the non XL S3000. It was quite different.

The boards don't have "IB-M208P" or "EB16" written on them. Presumably because they were designated for the S3000XL. Can anybody confirm that if you buy these boards separately they do have this printed on them? The EB16 is definitely an EB16 tho because when I took it out of the S3000XL and pressed the EFFECTS button on the XL it returned the following error "No EB16 installed".

The IB-M208P that comes out of the S3000XL has a short cable so you need a 40 pin IDE extension cable (male to female).

Also it doesn't come with any kind of mounting hardware. My MPC is in bits at the moment as I'm fitting a card reader so I just balanced it on top of everything else just to quickly check it works. So I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to stay in there!

Finally I'm pretty sure the EB16 was an "option" on the S3000XL not a standard feature. An old review I found suggests this. So I just got lucky I guess.

As for boards from other S-series samplers I don't know for sure but I think the answer is "no" for the S1100. Certainly the board in my dead S900 doesn't fit. There are quite a few posts on this lurking around the forum so get searching and good luck!

Don't think so no. Cimple Solutions list them as different parts.
