Thift store diggin

hey, im new to diggin. and i was just wonderin how often yall find a bomb ass piece of vinyl at a thrift store. in my limited experience (ive been to 3 thrift stores), it seems like the same albums keep poppin up and theres not many interesting pieces. i just dont see much 60-70s jazz, or any other obscure lookin shit. and i hardly ever see and hip hop vinyl. most noteable rap record i saw was a dude named blakk pimp with the most vulgar song titles, lol.

so, how often do yall find quality vinyl at thrift stores?
do yall check with the thrift stores to see if they have gotten any new shit in?
where else do you find that classic jazz, funk, blues, hip hop stuff? are record stores good places to look for deals?
how often do you pay close to full value for a record? im tryin to stick to the dollar bins so i dont buy a 10$ wack album, but for yall experienced diggers, how often do you find a good deal at record stores?

I'll look through the records the stores got. instead of taking a chance on one or 2 records, I'll tell the person working there that I'll give 'em 20 quid ($40) for all of thier records. most of the time they are more than happy to get rid of them just to make room for other stuff to sell in the shop. This way if those 2 records don't have anything on them, I'll have the others to go through.

I've been collecting/digging for a loooooooooooooooong time. I can honestly say you can always get something to sample off of any record.
chop it and/or layer it and/or filter it...

I'm not even gonna front act like I'm some OG since I'm only 22 years of age but in my past expiriences I used to buy alot of crap from thrift stores. I used to cop alot of symphony orchestra type ish, alot of common r&b/soul like earth wind and fire, records with bugged out cover art etc etc etc....thinking i would find some crazy stuff. Now dont get me wrong I appreciate all the old soul/r&b but after time my hunger for obsure records grew bigger and I started to pay more attention to what I was buying.

A few things I started to look at...

Genre.
Year it was made.
What instruments have been used.
What musicians or producers have featured on the record.
What label its on.

All of these things have given me a better insight to what I'm buying and possibly what the record might sound like. For me thrift stores take the most patience while digging. A good idea would be to buy a portable turntable. Bring that ish to the thrift store and slap every record on possible. Ive sat for hours and found plenty of records that I never suspected of having anything "dope" on them. Also try the dollar bins at actual record stores where the music is actually catagorized.

In the end bro its going to be your passion and dedication thats going to help you. Keep at it and dont let the hip hop elite knock you down.

Timing is everything when it comes to the thrift store game.

thats why it's called diGGin because you have to keep looking for the right records, you'll get dirty and have to go through a lot of sh!t but when you find the right record it feels like you the RICHEST person on earth. i feel a sign of relief, ONE LESS RECORD I HAVE TO LOOK FOR!!!!.

coming across Rap records is a just a matter of how much you actually dig and how frequent i found a SXUAL HARRASMENT record for$1. still in the plastic it was in better condintion then the one i have had for 24 yrs areally. you ust got to keep goin to different places, Diggin is about goin to places you never been to ,to look for records. theres nothing like goin to this little town in the middle of nowhere and finding an antique shop and scoring on aPHAT assb break record for 10 bucks if that prolly cheaper, but then you loook up this record and see what it sells for on line then you know what a steal you got,

inless you buy from a record store most places dont know what there selling they just want to get rid of it and get some money ,records take up space i peoples stores so they want to sell them for cheap.

:a tip: be selective about what your buying, dont just buy to have records or to just say you have the most records, beleive me once you move you'll think twice about collecting records. i have been doin this since i was 6yrs old,and i have moved my records a few times and it's not an easy task.

I like thrift stores because like Juke said you can get a lot of records for cheap, of course most of them is on some wack sh*t but you'll be surprised how many sounds you can come up with, like Self said read the credits and instruments, example; I found some nice dirty piano riffs on this solo piano LP. You might have to check the same thrift shop a couple times a month cuz you never know when somebody might drop some gems off.

thrift stores are a great place to learn. records a dollar each, find some dope shit, then good. if not, lesson learned and didn't cost you that much.

plus, it's realistically one of the few places where you can find rare shit on the cheap

I like flea markets better then thrifts. Bought a crate full of comic record for $5.00 bucks one time. Other times its random. It's really just like the gathering of the yard sales, more or less.

Get there early. The bigger the better.

I hit up the local Goodwills at least once or twice a week. Sometimes nothing, other times a treasure trove of goodies.

You would not believe the stuff I find!

i was on the road today, stopped by a thrift store sellin records for .50 each. i get some george benson good king bad on the infamous CTI label. i dont really care if i use it, i just want alot of CTI shit cuz its the shit.

also, has anyone heard of ed gutfreund? i picked this up cuz it had some wierd sounds on it like a mandalin, 12 string guitar, shit like that. i looked it up on ebay and the album is being sold for 50 and 84 bucks. lol, its called "from an indirect love" heard of it?

picked up like 20 records for 10 bucks. others were 2 harmonicats albums (i think ive heard their name around here before so i was like wtf is 50cents), jesus christ superstar, paul mauriat (downloaded him off this site and i liked it so now i got him on vinyl), Glen grey and the casa loma orchestra (shits so old but on the back it says it has sax, bass, guitar, piano, drums... worth 50cents right?lol)

Yea man I co-sign me some thrift stores man....It's ill to because if you are a regular and go frequent...you'll be suprised at how friendly they are I mean I go in and most places are cool as sh!t and already know me....so now when new shipments come in or some one donates a whole buntch of records a couple of the places will call me to let me know and give me first dibs before they even put them out for sale....

If they are not friendly well thats cool to because money talks, find the most down to earth looking person in there and tell em if there are ever new shipments of records that come in to make sure you are the first to be called and that theres a couple bucks in it for them if they give you the heads up....myte sound crazy but if you are area that gets alot of traffic and alot of new stuff daily TRUST ME it's worth an extra five or 10 spot to get first dibs sometimes people dropp of str8 GEMS like its nothing....but its just because they dont have a clue and think records are like soooooo yesterday lol.....

oh and yea dont get it twisted, garage sales, swap shops etc...All sick places for vinyl and if you dont mind buying in bulk and sift later you can get some sick deals.....Countless time I have purchased like 50-100+ lots for pennies on the dollar and yea some times alot garbage but then again ALOT of gems 2.....be patient find your pray and go in for the kill....

last but not least....DONT SLEEP ON CRAIGSLIST!! I'll just leave it at that!!
