Compressing on the mpc

I've got my bassline sample which is too quiet, so I've used the compressor to up the gain, but its done it to all the samples, how do I just target one?

Sounds like you need to normalize the sample (bring it up to unity = 0db), unless you specifically want to compress the sample in which case i would suggest resampling thru the compressor.

dont think you understood my question, dont think I phrased it right. I have a sample, normalized, I want to turn it to a bassline so I put a lowpass filter on it but now its to quiet. How do I turn up the gain on just this sample with the filter on top? When I go into the compressor and turn up the gain it will make all my other samples i've assigned to my pads up aswell.

So Far as I'm aware on the MPC the compressor acts on the entire output of the machine - Instead of turning stuff up to make it louder, try mixing all the other samples in your program/programs down relative to the sample that is 'too quiet', turning up isn't always the answer........

That's correct, the FX only get sent to the stereo bus. Too bad...

Which compressor are you talking about? If you mean the master compressor, then yes, it will turn up the gain on everything! But if you mean the seperate compressor in FX 1 or 2, then you can send a single sample/pad to this compressor without affecting any other pads. You do this in the mixer section (F3 - FX SEND).

Also, check that you haven't set your Low Pass filter too low.

or you could just use the master compressor, then resample your bass hits,
then turn the master comp off and you should get some ok results.

the compressor in the MP isn't very intuitive or musical, better off tweaking
the samples a bit on your DAW or through an analog compressor (if you have
one or the other )

use a mixer... and make the bassline go on one of the 4 outs on the mpc... resample the bassline normalized with the compressor effects if need be.

that should do if you want the bassline to stand out from the total mix.. dont b scared clip that sh** son!!!!

i'm sure a couple people already said it but f*ck it: you go to mixer, assign the pad of your choice to "1" or "2" which is refering to the effects. go to the effects page and just use the compressor effect. tweak it however. it should only compress whatever pad you have assigned to it. chea chea.
