iMac
MP49
Numark TTX

I could write it like that and miss out the soundcard and the monitors. If it was really only a three piece set up, then an mpc 4000, Numark TTX and some nice monitors, I guess.

Nice to see that the MPC's are appealing to modular synth geeks aswell  Particularly those with plenty of cash to burn!

Whenever you feel the need to get rid of the Bulcha, I have a 1K waiting here to trade up for it. :D

I REALLY need to go back to a laptop .... I don't WHAT I was thinking when I made the switch over to a Mac Mini. I did get a boost in speed and RAM, but there are so many situations I find myself in where having a laptop would be ideal.

My choices: MPC 2000XL MCD, Keystation Pro 88, and a good Mac laptop (with Reason, ProTools, and Logic).

MPC1000, DSI Evolver, x0xb0x (TB-303 clone).
Those are the 3 pieces that I use the most.

 Of course you can do a lot with three pieces! I often use only my 3000 with a turntable hooked up to it. I hope you are really kidding, cause a LOT of classic Hip Hop is made on just a SP1200 with a turntable...

I would use:
Turntable
MPC3000 (or maybe MPC60 or SP1200)
Records

If records don't count as a piece of gear I would love to have an crazy analog synth

I like to keep it real and not dream too hard if you know what I mean. I take that most if not everybody here is'nt taking in consideration of the post mixing and mastering gear if you ever plan on producing it for radio play/mass prodution. I hate to spoil the party here but a 3 piece setup in this day & time won't get you much if you plan on competing with a 20, 30 or even 50 piece setup, you get my drift? Maybe those that are stuck on one genre of music and think that anything more than that is too complicated might benefit from a 3 piece setup. Always the easy route, eh? I'm not knocking what others prefer, but this thread has been dead long ago. But on another thought, you all continue to dream on, maybe someday your wishes will come true.

I'm not shure if the point of this thread is to say what gear does it all, including all the things you mentioned, but what gear somebody would choose if they had to limit themself to only 3 pieces of gear.

And a lot of beatmakers are happy with 3 pieces. Plus many beatmakers don't know how to use all that other equipment, and maybe multitrack in studios where all that 50 pieces is.

I'm not trying to compete with a professional studio, I'm only trying to make beats that I and others may like, and for that I only need my MPC and a turntable.

And you may know that talented people can make hot stuff with bad quality and limited gear.

Gear don't make music, people do.
