Today my copy of Led Zeppelin BBC Sessions (4LP) finally arrived and in my excitement to open it, I wasn't really thinking. Lightly with a knive I was cutting the tape to open the box and just assumed that the nice people at the record shop would put some kind of protection between the tape and the LP but no so now I have a nice little cut line up the middle of my record and then I nearly cried.

So whats the best piece of wax you've damaged or cover ?

never happened to me like that, but when i see a valuable record/one i really want at a thrift store and its scribbed on like a 4 year old thought it was a coloring book or its torn up, a part of me dies.

Sup Dr_Doom?

I'm also in the land of the long white cloud.

I'm carefull when openin recs i brought online, but can see how this would happen. I nearly did the same.

Worst I did: you know sometimes recs are slightly bowed, and if there sort of soft you can bend em flat a bit. Tried it with a brand nu record and it was so brittle it just exploded into five or six peices. heart breaking stupid shit. Needless to say I don't try to bend em anymore.

Some guy borrowed a housevinyl from me for some party. I got it back with a crack in it. He bought me another (cheap) vinyl and it was ok. Till i saw the cracked housevinyl in a average condition on ebay sold for 300 bucks

Not really my fault but:

- Once I ordered a 12" from NY. When the mailman finally came he didn't bother to ring my doorbell or anything, he just folded the record double and jammed it into my mailbox.

- My girl had some friends over while I wasn't there and she wanted to put on a record. When she pulled out the cover of my record cabinet, the record fell out straight on the floor causing it to break. Needless to mention that it's mostly the best song that gets damaged. Hardly ever the crappy joints on there...

Not sure if this applies, but I ordered a copy of Mary J Blige's Breakthrough LP, and got doubles of sides A & B inside instead of the full LP.

I did buy a drum break record from someone on eBay once, and they shipped/packaged it very poorly. Opened it up and the record was cracked. Contacted the seller who gave me a full refund including shipping.
