REIGHT BEFORE I GET MY MPC1000

what's up!, i plan to get an mpc1000 soon, but lately i have a question around my head that NEEDs to be answered in order to know which mpc i'm getting, it's as follows:

mpc 1000 has xxx notes, xxx sequences xxx programs max and so on.... but, the mpc records all that info on the cf or hd unit? or in an internal memory, in that case.... as i will need my mpc to make beats and also to build some pad live acts, and don't want to mix the samples/memory (yeah, in order to have max availibility on each use i'm giving to it).

will be better to get an mpc without the hd and , say, get two 2gb cf cards? one for the smapling and beatmaking, and another for the live set issues... the difference it's not that muich in dollar, but yeah, down in chile it makes a difference and allows me to get some other gear i need...

and IF YOU KNOW SOME STORE WITH A REALLY GOOD DEAL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I'M SAVING LIKE 6 MONTHS FOR THIS SHIT)

the mpc 1000 has an internal memory (RAM) which basically is the limit of sampling time you have at any one time. this can be expanded up to 128mb, which will give you approx 24 mins of sample time.

when you want to save your work, you can save to either a compact flash card or a hard drive. hard drive is optional, you can get one up to 80gb to fit inside the mpc 1000.

personally, i just save to compact flash cards and occasionally back them up to my pc. the 1000 has usb connectivity for this, so transfering files is nice n easy.

as far as having two cards.. well its easier if you save all your project infomation in one place, so that when you come back to use it again you can load it all in one go.

having a couple of cards is still a good idea, but save your entire project to one place.

thanks for the advice!... i'm just thinking of what choices do i have when getting out of notes or sequences or programs... well how close is that to happen? i mean, have any of you been in this situation? like "oh i'm gonna sample this stuff right now. sample, cut edit. and at slicing.. !!no more programs left!! or something like that :S

oh yeah, i also plan to connnect it with my padkontrol in order to get a 32 pad monster let's say, seqs onthe mpc, and trigger one shots and muting tracks onthe padkontrol... what do you think of that?

It works very well.... I've done it. There is a ton you can do with the PK. The PK's pads are better for playing stuff like basslines and keys than the MPC's are.


Plus, AutoChromatic on the MPC and the PK with scales is a formidable beast of a music making machine.

thanks wax808, it's good to know that it has been tested before with good results, thanks for the feedback!! ... but i'm still wondering how does mpc handles it's data.... where do it saves the notes/pgm/seq info.... in the memory itself... an internal memory. or whatever.... OR AM I REALLY WORRYING ABOUT NOTHING??? hahaha

that's all. thanks for making it clear for me, i thought you were talking only about samples.. now i'm all clear about that issue (now to find some akai dealer close to my country so i can FINALLY get the 1k)
