s950 VS s20?

Ok, i finally managed to get an s950 for that 12 bit crunch! ....but I didn't realise just how huge it is....
I mean, it's not massive, but i'm having trouble fitting it into my tiny bedroom (not literally
I've only spent an hour or so with the s950 (only got it yesterday) and I'm having trouble using it, but i'm sure i'll learn as I go on...

anyway, if i can't keep it due to the space, what are your views on an s20 for drums?
I'll be sampling of records straight into it and then sampling into my MPC 2500 for all my editing and arranging.
I was hoping to do this with the s950, but as I've said...^^^

I know the sound of the 950 is superb (although I haven't been able to get it to work yet) but I hear that the s20, although it's 16 bit, still has a sweet crunchy, fat sound.....will it do a similar job?

cats only used old skool stuff it its day because of its cheapness and availability, what happend to that these days?

i have a mate who makes beats on a adictaphone.. or a tape recorder...

or better yet i just drop a beatbox..

its about you beats not about the quality of the sound...

you should be able to make dope shit with anything... sound quality to me is irrelevant....

How can you honestly say that sound quality or character doesn't matter?
If someone comes up with a great beat but uses sounds from like, the Reason Soundbank or something, it's gunna sound shit no matter what anyone says. If you are the least bit serious you would change the sounds to your own. I know this isn't really what we're talking about, but I'm meaning when people use shitty sounding software presets etc....no matter how "dope" your beat is it just won't stand.

And btw, it's not a nostalia thing for me, I'm only 17 and I don't really listen to alot of old school hip hop if I'm honest, it's just the sound I like and these particular sounds are from the hardware that they used.
I want to achieve a certain type of sound and the way to do that (and to sound authentic) is to use a piece of hardware that gives what I want...simple.
And if anything it's a purist thing. I'm a perfectionist and take music making very seriously as do most serious "producers".
You simply cannot have amazing arrangements etc. and not care about sound quality, it's the other 50%

oh, and btw I'm sticking with the 950 cuz it sounds sweet.
I'm gunna buy the s20 when I find one aswell =]

sweet bro you'll understand with age its not what you use but how you use it.

a lot of people on this site have specifics with equipment but a majority of them are wack. it hardly means anything if youre a purist.

lets hear your music then so i can judge for myself if i think its good or not

you have a lot to learn if you simply think your going to make dope music sticking with certain media.

wordsofwizdom - I dont think anyone actually believes that certain gear will make you a better beatmaker - but, some of us do understand and recognize sound. and this is a business of sound. babu on reason using a Flute loop thats part of the reason sound bank is not impressive. reason will never sound like a asr 10 let alone a s950 - and that is a fact even peterock him self uses reason. thats all i can say, nothing to do with beatmaking, thats another story....keeping it on sound only is what iam referring to.
