if you are just getting audio from the pc and the macbook you dont need any midi. just plug your audio outs from the pc/mac to the audio in on the mpc and go to the sample page and record the sound that's playing on your pc/mac.

you only need the midi if you plan to have the mpc sync to your DAW or your DAW to sync to your mpc.

i got my mpc setup so that when i press play it will start cubase. this is thru the midi cable (out from mpc, in to pc/mac). also, i want the beats to be recorded into cubase from the mpc. for this, my main outs go from the mpc to the audio inputs on my pc/mac's audio interface.

recap:

to get sounds from your pc/mac into the mpc you just plug the audio outs of the pc/mac into the audio in of the mpc. midi is not needed.

tweakheadz is a great site. read a few articles yesterday for the first time. good stuff. def encourage you to check it out.

++Hey BaDSign I see you use CuBase. I want to ask you what buses do you use to record b/c Im havin a problem where I hear everything thru both speakers/headphones before I record but the playback I only hear what was recorded thru one speaker/headphone. I know my hookup is right it is just something in the CuBase I am not doin right.++
