testing scsi

ok ive tried to get my scsi to work on 3 zip drives, my mpc 60II wont recognize any of them, ive tried 2 cables connecting

does this mean my scsi is hooped or what ? anyone have any ideas ?
i CANNOT deal with using floppies

Doesn't sound right...

When you first turn your machine on and it gets to the boot screen does a message about searching SCSI appear ?

If not then it would be a good indicator that you don't have the Marion Systems SCSI option fitted.

Do you have SCSI related options in your MPC60MK2's disk menus ?

All MPC60/60MKII machines have the RS232 port on the rear.

The presence of this port is no indicator that the SCSI option board is installed.

Are you sure you have the SCSI options board fitted

Maybe flick the lid of your machine and check it out...

i DO have the options for scsi
when i turn on the machine it only searches for whatevers hooked up, like if i have a disk loaded it will load the sounds off the floppy
ill see if it checks scsi, i think it does..

i opened it up, it has the rear port that connects to a board saying marion systems or whatever its called...

i dunno what to do

Did you format the disk in the zip drive? You need to format it in the 60 before it will be able to use the disk.

Is your Zip terminated? Do you have the Scsi cable connected to the right scsi port on the Zip Drive, if you are looking at the rear of the zip with the lettering right side up, the cable should go to the connector on the left.

Did you power on the zip before the MPC? if you didn't you could have a blown scsi fuse. Also if you connected the cables with either unit powered on.

it does search for scsi at startup
i do have option 8 for scsi stuff

i did try to format zip first but it wont recognize anything to format

i have termination on (i have triedon and off)
ive tried both connections from the back of the zip
ive tried both 5 and 6 scsi ID
ive tried setting the MP to 5 and 6 and auto

i plugged in before startup (who knows what the previous owner has done)

No clue over here bro, did you try different Scsi cables?

the correct connector is the one on the Left looking at the back, only try that one.

I would say try another scsi device if you have one, a SCSI Hard Drive.

When you first switch it on, it says searching for scsi, does it find the scsi (the zip with disk should activate) ? It might not do this without a formatted zip.

This sounds like what happens before you format, when you go to the scsi page and hit format, what does it say?

Report back and maybe ontact Roger linn design for a replacement scsi fuse or how to check if it is blown. I can't see what on the scsi board is the fuse, so it must look weird.

when i try to format a zip it sais it cant find anything and to try to set the id to auto..

basically there is zero communication with the device

did you try different cables? screw the taps in all the way?

its not NEW, but it was installed aftermarket, along with os 3.10e
