Step By Step Process to add memory to MPC 4k

How many sticks of double sided ram do I need?
How do I manually install the ram or should I have it done?
Please Help.....

what you need if you wanna max the memory on the MPC out are 2 double-sided 256MB SDRAM PC133 CL2 memory modules.
Make sure the memory you buy works at CL2 (Cas Latency 2) if you want your MPC 4k to work perfectly (otherwise, you might experience a lot of problems). This SDRAM memory ain't the easiest to find ('cos it's a bit old now and most new computers don't use it anymore), I am sure you can find some on EBay or in a computer shop that sells second hand stuff, or old stuff (once again, make sure they are CL2 double-sided 256 MB PC133 SDRAM modules).
If you already changed memory on a Personal Computer, then it won't be any harder to add some memory in your MPc.
If you never did, you might wanna ask for some help (wether a computer technician or a friend of yours who knows its way in computer stuff)

ive got these sticks in my mpc

ya gotta put them in so the eject buttons either side of the sticks pop up(cilck).
i put the farside in first , then the side closest to u.

they can be hard to get in, but dont to apply to much force to em and ground yourself before installing anything by touching a upainted part of the chassis, to discharge static electricity from ya.
also check the "mpc4000inst_e" doc off akais site for info on opening her up

My MPC 4k has 272 megs of RAM. Does that mean there is already 2 sticks in there. A 256 and a 16? Does anybody know where there is a really good deal on 256 RAM in Canadian or US Funds? I don't know where to find deals for computer stuff!

i believe there is only one stick in there.
the 16mb one is on board as far as i know.
it does get cancelled out when you put in 2x 256mb sticks though, which is kind of odd, well, perhaps it's not, 512 is just the maximum apparently.

sup one,
the 16 mb is inbuit to tha machine,so it can function with no physically installed sticks, i guess.
but this gets deactivated out when ya install two 256mb sticks, not two 128mb sticks,so the only way to really tell is to open her up.
but it doesnt make sense to me why anyone would install two 128 sticks instead of one 256 stick,

I've just been to madd stores today lokking for a 256 MB stick to max out my 4k. I have no problem finding RAM with all those specs, except for the double sided aspect. None of the salemen at any of the stores I went to knew anything about double sided RAM and the packages say nothing at all regarding double or single sided, so can I get somebody to elaborate on that aspect please??!!

I also saw some RAM that was CL3 instead of 2, would that work?

CL 2 is a must

I m not sure for the single or double sided thing 'cos I have not tried it myself but the manual says tahat it has to be double sided

dimms are always double sided so salespeople dont know about single cause single sides chips are called simms
dimm=dual inline memory module
simms=single inline memory module
so if u found the matching specs it will work
