I have used the 2000 XL but never owned one. My first MPC was the 1000. I think that you will definetly be satisfied with your trade unless you have some kind of emotional attachment to your 2000XL. First of all the sound quality in the 1000 is the same or even better because of the JJ OS which gives you more sample editing features(not many though). You have a couple more, different on-board effects also. YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE FLOPPYS ANYMORE! The 1000 uses flash card memory which i think is better than a zip drive and plus you can hook the 1000 straight into your computer and drag/drop your samples. The pads are the only crappy part of the unit. If i were you i would buy one new and send it to an Akai service center under their warranty so the can put the new upgraded pads which are supposedly like the ones on the XL. Those are just some of the things about the MPC 1000 but there are way more features.. Just read about its features at any online store and compare. Hope that helps
Peace

What are you waiting for? Its definitely an improvement. If you look at it you would realized that its is really compact. They dropped the numbered pads from the 2000xl and in cooperated it into the pads that you use for programming tones. Thats where some of the space comes from. I don't have to get a separate stand anymore I just place it on top of my keyboard.

If I really start typing this post is going to be way too long. Its definitely the way forward.

thanks a lot guys!
sorry to keep on asking again about the sounds i know it's a sampler and you get the sounds you put it in but few peoples who are used to tthe 2000xl tell me that the sounds on the 1000 sucks, they said that when you put a lot of samples in it and you start messing around with the pads you have to hit them harder than usual because the sounds are not sounding like it should do .and i read that it sounds to compressed too

Hey,

I have both, and to be honest keep your 2000, not saying i don tlike my 1000 but the 2000 is more powerful in terms of sound.
its more louder and punchier.

The 1000 is a little bit and noticibly tinny.

my drums dont bang as hard as the 2000 so i have to do more work to get them to sound better on the 1000.

the mpc 2000 can have a MCD fitting so you can use a CF card or other small media cards. yeah you loose out on USB but so? you got the card.

just my 2pence!

if you go with the 1000 find one with busted pads on the cheap, and buy the pad upgrade
