I've been Djing since 1992, at a very young age, Excited all the way till about 2002, I needed something more challenging. As with most Dj's djing clubs, parties, etc...next would come the producing part of the game. We hear instrumentals and we just know and is for the most part of our dream, we have to start producing too. So after being off the dj scene for some while I wanted to start making tracks. I just need some help picking out some gear and found this forum,
here's what I have...
Akai Mpc3000/Roland Groovebox MC505/MAC POWERBOOK G4/GIBSON SG Electric Guitar/2 Technics 1200 Turntables...
What I need help on is deciding what to get next. I'll write up my list of what I;m looking at and see what you guys think. My main focus in music is Hip-Hop.
Worksation-Mackie d8b/(or Mackie MCU Pro)
Software-Protools or one that's MAC compatible (reason, logic??)
Monitors-Yamaha HS series
Keyboard-Triton or One less expensive that does the Job.
These are my main concerns, I have little knowledge of the Mackie d8b but know you can use it as a controller for Pro-tools. (or should I step up and get the Mackie MCU Pro). About the monitors, I'm sticking too the Yamaha's but as for the Triton, I just like the way it looks. I know there are far cheaper ones out there that does the job, so if anyone has experienced with any other keyboard they would like to input on, that'll be cool. Realistically, I have or want to spend anywhere from $5000-$8000, and want the best possible set-up for a Hip hop based studio (within that range). Any help is greatly appreciated.
