Possibly need to go to Tokyo next february for my job. Anybody got some nice spots to hit?

The impression I have is that it's dope for hiphop, but are there any real good spots to hit for cheap and rare sample material?

I'm a novice digger who's lived here a little over a year. My opinion is that it is dope for Hip Hop and just about anything else you'd want... It's just not the best place to shop on the cheap. At least, if you're talking American stuff- I rarely find any Soul, Jazz, Rock... anything from the States that isn't at least 1000 yen (roughly 8 bucks and some change). They know their stuff out here, so don't expect diggs like what you're used to at home. I'm happy if I find a place with a 500 yen section.

A lot of spots have little note cards on every piece of wax in the store saying what break it contains and who sampled it for what. What really sucks is finding a joint with the U.S. price tag still on- 99 cents at Buck's Records in Anytown, USA- and the Japanese price above it like 6500 yen

Anyone else wanna weigh in? Maybe there are some spots I don't know.

Thanks man...Well I was thinking some japanese stuff is pretty f*ckin' expensive over here so I figured it might be cheap(er?) over there...

If you're lookin' for Japanese stuff, it might be a lil' different- I get the impression that they aren't checking for their own stuff as much as they are stuff from overseas. Yeah, u can proabably do pretty well then.

Hit up the Udagawa-cho area of Shibuya or the Shimokitazawa neighborhood. Spots are sprinkled all thoughout those areas.

you will find anything and everything in tokyo... just won't find any deals. they know what everything is work and it sucks. even better would be a trip to south korea. surprises me every weekend i go diggin. lots of 1-2 dollar stacks. definitely a lot of soul, r&b, jazz... not as definitive as tokyo, but plenty of things to make the trip worth taking... it's about a two and a half hour flight from tokyo. good luck.

Shibuya. All I can say is Shibuya.

Besides the basement of Disk Union (which I posted in that other link above), check Recofan.

Shibuya Disc Union Basement - More rare OG samples per square foot than you can imagine. Prices are actually quite fair.

Same Disc Union 3F(?) - Great hip hop selection and quite good prices.

Recofan - Just down the street from Disc Union. Huge. Massive selection. Prices are OK, but you have to dig and dig and dig. You could probably spend a couple of weeks digging that place and still not get through everything. It actually wears me out when I go because there's so much there.

Anyways, that whole neighborhood is filled with record shops, just look up as you walk around. You'll see signs for loads of little places.

Also, jazzy sport is not far away, but they are crazy over priced. I was pretty disappointed.
