Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I've searched the forum and the sample section of the manual and can not find out how to take a sample and cut it into different peices and assign those different peices to different pads? Any help would be great!

Hi just go to trim loop your sample if you want to loop it then go to zone got to the number of zone hit open window set the number of chosp you want and adjust the star and end point of each one then create a new programe or assign them manually in program mode but i suggest you should read the manual

what i do is 1st get my sample make sure its loud enough and you can see the wavelength in the trim screen then 2nd i save that sample as the main sample because you will have to keep loading it after you chop it then 3rd load the sample and go to trim screen then 4th i make my first chop by assigning the start and end points (hit the pads to hear what your chopping) then 5th i repeat this process for my second chop by starting at the end point of my first chop and repeat usually to get 8 -16 chops then 6th go to program screen and assign your chops to the pads by hitting the pad you want to assign then assigning the chop then 7th once you have your program put other sounds in the other banks then 8th save your program then start making some sequences with that. word

You didn't read your manual thoroughly enough.

2k = znedit

2kxl = zone

Look it up, enjoy.

1. Take your sample.
2. Trim your sample.
3. Set play x: to ZONE in the upper right hand window.
4. hit F3 "zone".
5. Hit open window and set the number of zones...16 zones means 16 pads...4 zones = 4 pads....ect.
6. you can trim your zones to match the waveform peaks by selecting the zone numbers and cycling through them....this is under "play X:" upper right hand corner.
7.Hit edit and turn jog wheel to time stretch.
8. Hit F2...which is BPM match. This is beat matching and tempo matching. You have to play with this. Somebody else will have to explain this one. I'll say this though, I slice my samples and most of the time do not trim them (unless they are drums or horn stabs, chords). I beat match them so that each sample is 1 beat out of four. I can hit each pad in succession and you would not know its chopped even though if you play the pads they are not perfectly sliced on beat. (waveform peaks)
9. After you you hit F5 "do it" and bpm match, it will take you back out to trim screen. Hit F5 "edit again it should be on slice sound. Make sure it says yes to "create new program", and hit F5 "do it" to slice the sample.
10. Now come back to the main screen and you should have your chopped up sample across your pads.
11. Don't forget to save your program.
12. Have fun and play around with this feature.
