MPC4k and USB

Is it possible to hook up an USB-hub to th 4k? 'cause I wont to use both an USB hardrive, a pc and an apple USB keyboard at the same time, without having to swop between USB cables

How many USB ports does the MPC4k have?

I dont own one yet But I'll get one very soon

Oh, one more: Is it possible to use MIDI sample dump on the 4k?

The MPC 4000 has one master USB port in front and one slave USB port in the back.

The master USB in the front can be used with a USB multi out (I use a 4 multi out connecter) with keyboard, Zip disk and USB calculater for working on the MPC the Data wheel can be a hassle and I got the idea from DJ Tatsuya of Kick the Can Crew. The slave USB port in the back is only for usage with your computer in connection with AKsys 2.61 editor.

Your 'USB multi out' is the same as an USB hub.. right? And do they work at the same time? Or do we need to switch between devices some how..? 'Cause with a keyboard the data is send in the other direction then with the USB harddrive (Lacie). Can I type lettres and numbers with the keyboard when saving to the Lacie HD, at the same time? Both connected to the same USB hub on the master port.

Cant wait 'till I get one!

One more question: Does the effect card has a tremolo onboard? (maybe that autopan, dunno). How do the effects work? Can you apply them on wav's or only on the parts in the Multi-view? Or both? Or on programs?

I currently own an MPC60 ( OS 2.12 ) and its not possible to trigger an external sampler with the MPC-pads without hearing the internal sounds from the MPC. It does nt have a local off mode. Only way to work with extenal gear is when connecting an external MIDI keyboard to the MIDI in port of the MPC.. Can you trigger external samplers with the pads from the MPC4000 without hearing the sounds from the MPC4k?

When does the new OS comes out? So you can stream sounds from HD. Is this in both directions? Record and playback. Would be great! So you can skratch directly to HD!

Concerning the Mult out yes it is the same and everything works at the same time. When naming tracks, samples, programs, sequences you will be using different pages so I don`t exactly see how you will use the keyboard and save at the same time. As for far as the effects card it doesn`t contain tremolo as a preset effect; however, the 4000 is a full fledge sampler so you can go to the program page into edit 1 and edit 2 and create Tremolo, Vibrato, modulation, and the list goes on using LFOs, filters, and Amps read up on the basis of synthesis to understand more. All sounds (samples) are stored in a program which is assign to a part in a Multi. Next assign a part to a track in a sequence. Not much difference from a MPC 60 just different terminalogy. If I`m not mistaken doesn`t the MPC 60 upgrade to OS 3.10 which you can trigger an sounds on an external sampler like the Akai 950 using the pads assign to a keygroup on the sampler. As for as the MPC 60 it`s a sampler so no internal sounds need be loaded just sample everything into your external sampler and use the MPC 60 as a sequencer. The MPC 4000 has the Z8/Z4 sampler build in so I wouldn`t need an external sampler, but yes I could trigger an external sampler from it. Hmmn when you trigger sounds on a sampler do you change the drum track to midi track that may solve the problem of the internal sounds triggering at the same time. The new 0S 1.51 was released two months ago without the HD audition or streaming audio it is your guess as mine when the next update will appear, but the OS 1.51 is nice using Qlink and others.
