Deciding to get 500

Hi I have 2500 right now in the studio
but I need a unit that can go anywhere with me.

I'm deciding between 500 and 1000 but I heard alot of complaints from 500 users. even some reviews.

So I want to ask mpc-forum that how do u guys feel about the 500.

if I have a work outside I wanna carry the mpc with me and when I'm back in the studio, I'll put the files in the 2500 and work more.
This is the main purpose.

What do u think about 500?
on that purpose what would u buy?

Well I have a 1000 and of course you already know that ITS A BEAST WITH THE JJ OS! I know a cat selling one and I messed around on it for a hot minute and personally I couldnt imagine myself getting any quality work done on i that would translate into something I could bring back to the lab and build on. The concept is a nice one but just not well thought out by numark. F&ck that its Numark because since they've takne over they're running akai into the ground.


1. Its small but not much smaller than the MPC 1000 and for the difference in strength and functionality the 1000 wins hands down.

2. The display is annoying. nothing is represented through a graphical display and all sub menus feel like they're hidden away.

3. In 12levels there is only tune and I believe decay. There's only 2 optoins the rest is done somewhere else.

4. Its overpriced! I can get one for $350 but its just not worth it to me.

5. Most beats are 1/4 measured with a 4bar count. if you were to spread out a chop across the 12 pads I would think there would be akward chop to compensate for the 4 missing pads.....ya dig!

6. Imagine having the power of your 2500 in the size of a 1000 because thats exactly what you would get if you have the JJ os.

7. Why not dump the 2500 for a 1000 and cop a 500 and put some of nyms pads into the 1000 and have maybe a few hundred left over with more stuff! Hey thats just the mind of a hustla!

i think you can do loads on the 500 that would be useful on the 2500. i just started going between the 500 and a 1000... if you're patient, and do want to bring something with you thats truly is portable, the 500 would be totally suitable. it'll take some getting used to, but it's a dope little machine. there's no way to know until you get it and give it a shot. everyone is different. i like getting feedback but you can only get so much of it without actually getting your hands on the thing, you know?

The mpc 500 it´s really good.i come fron an xl and i really love it.Diferent than my xl and harder to use at firs,but now after 6 months with it i´m totally used to it.it´s an mpc stripped down to it basics,and i love that idea.It´s more similar to 3000 or 60 than an xl or 1000.Use it along a boss sp 303 and you won´t need anything more.Also i like the idea that you can play keys over sequences while recording.The 500 gives you the basic shit to make beats and that´s for me a lot .
