tried korg padkontrol, trigger finger, mpd24. I liked the mpd24 most but I when a resale value of a used mpc2500 is between 900-1100. does it really make sense to sell it for midi controller and be left with 700 ? when I paid 2g"s brand new....that be probably dumbest move ever.

reason I'm getting the 4k is cuz I found it real cheap and it's either going to replace the 2.5k or resell for profit.

Why not use an mpc as a controller??? Midi controls works right? I have MPD24 along with a laptop too. But for my desktop going into LOGIC I use my 4k. If you get the 4k say goodbye to AKS programs, say goodbye to Auto Chops and goodbye to Master Effects too.

I picked up the 4k last night, only spent about 15mins with it cuz had something to take care of.It's a shame how beat up this thing

I have a fairly large setup, 40 input /40 return console (inline) , MPC 4K, SP 1200, S-950, Laptop running Cubase LE (with Reason 3.0 + Battery) with AK.SYS, 4 sound modules (JV2080, Proteus 2000, Motif ES rk and NanoBass) connected via a MOTU MTP interfaced to my MAC G5 running Cubase 4 Studio (UAD enabled) + (Reason 3.0 and Battery) + (Dual 23" LCD monitors for dual screen action ) rockn off of 2 Aurora16/AES16 AD/DA convertors giving me 32 channels of record/playback, throw in a couple of midi triggers (PCR 80, Axioum 25, Radium), a ML-9600 (sick) for my 2 track master mixes and Tannoy Elispe 10 monitors to blast shit. As u can tell I have a powerful DAW/+ hardware setup with infinate possibilities. I can argue both sides of the coin. On one end having a DAW is amazing on the other end it can be overwhelming and take as much away from the creative side of things as it can add. Sometimes I sit there and just dont know where to start. But from my experience the only way I have made it work for me and I've only realized this in the last 2-3 months is to KEEP IT FREAKN SIMPLE, go back to my roots and rock hands on...on the 4K (had a 2K since mid 90s and it was all I had for a while. Do as much as I can with the 4K until I'm some what satisified with the track, then only reach out to my DAW for additional midi sequencing for bassline, painos...sounds and audio tracking. I have found that this method brings out way more creativity and some what of structure for me since I come from the hands on/hardware skool. From here u can only make things sound better (additional midi sequencing, fixing midi sequencing/audio tracking, plugs ins etc.....). The reason I say this is because I see alot of younger cats rushing out to buy alot of extra gear without mastering/maximizing one machine, like I used to do (although I am a certified gearslut and can admit it). This sort of creates a double edge sword, when it comes to the DAW and gear like large mixing consoles, cuz when u start doing more engineering/mixing/mastering, it definately takes alot away from your creativity. So I wud have to agree with
Create>Mold>4k
+
Mix>Arrange>Polish>DAW

As well as what some have said about relying too much on a PC/MAC.

Why not do that will what you have now??? I mean if you have Live rewired to your favorite DAW. With your mpc as an external instrument along with sequencing by your mpc using your DAW as a multitracker and software instrument what more do you need?

I'm going to guess that will never happen on the hardware end. To this day, the only hardware samplers that can do real timestretch is Roland's Veriphrase machines, and they don't do it well compared to Live. Then there is the fact that everyone has given up on hardware samplers. The ones that are out there now are all groveboxes, mpc's, etc, and they are all using sampling engines from many years ago. Even the "flagship" 2500 has a weaker engine than what they used to use. And Rolands MV doesn't use Veriphrase. What a waste. But sure, it would be something.

take the same samples and lay them on pro tools grid -then program same pattern in the 4000 straight quantize no swing -there's no comparison the 4000 is way better.. sequence the pattern in pt and have it play the 4000 -again the 4000 sequencer is way better -theres just something about how the 4000 delivers the midi notes.. never tried the other mp's so i might try the 5000 only because of its hard disk mounting feature -and because i'm happy with an outboard sampler.. maybe the 5000 delivers midi like the 4000.. no way just blaze ditched the mp in favor of pt /battery even though he said he did..
