agreed. and i've already brought this up in the 1000 forum on multiple occasions.

the audio tracks suck. they are a total disappointment coming from direct record, which was one of the main reasons i picked up the 2500.

I keep expecting JJOS revisions to have sorted this out... maybe in 5.39!
The ability to punch-in-record as my sequence is playing keeps things flowing. Having to first stop the sequence, then hit record play..... click, click, click, click.... is a pain in the arse.
Also, direct record the Akai way lets me record my signal when all my outboard processing is already ebbing and flowing (something which is not happening at the beginning of the first bar).

not only that... what about the unlimited # of tracks that could be used.. u could also treat the audio w/ filters, effects and everything w/o jumping thru hoops.. it just is 10x better

I must be missing something here. I love using the JJ Direct Recording feature. Especially when I have it hooked up to Reason.

you are missing something, because the JJ OS doesn't have direct recording. it has 8 audio tracks, which are the retarded step brother of direct record.

a lot of people get it mixed up.. the functions are not the same.. people that never used the akai direct record dont know what there missing.. JJs feature might not be so bad if you could record on only 8 tracks but then do a track move to free up those tracks..But you cant, your just stuck.. and you could just record what u played out of reason and rechop it.. But then you have to reland tose loops or notes, and if you dont quantize thats tuff..

... and you can't record something while your sequence is banging away. Flow is stifled, like thinking of george bush whilst your shaggin!

If you can't record audio while your sequence is playing? what is it for? that is dumb as hell

so wait....you mean......I cant record a bass part over some drums I just programed? While its playing?

yeah you can!

but.......

it will record from the start and stop after it reaches the end of your looped bars, it will continue to record if you turn looped bars off but you drums will stop unless you copy & paste them more then the loop your working with!
stuffs ya work flow!

Akai OS lets you punch in and out while the sequence is playing.
