Pad upgrade kit

how come there is a small green board coming with the the kit? Is it some kind of velocity translator thing? And whats with the 3m logo on the back of the board? It looks kinda flimsy.
It doesnt seem that original akai to me. Regardless if they work properly i ll buy it . And surely if this is original akai must build newer mpc 1000 s with this pad set installed.

it's not an Interlink Electronics FSR. it's a Sensitronics FSR. created by the same guy, Frank Eventoff.

the small green board is the updated pcb, so i suppose you could be eccentric and call it a "velocity translator."

3M is a company that makes adhesive backings among other things (velostat for instance). they created the adhesive that sticks the sensor strip to the metal frame. it's by no means flimsy, a fact that you'll note when you hold them.

"original akai," no. in fact, all new mpcs use Sensitronics fsrs instead of interlink, apparently. so at very least, we're now equal to the rest in terms of pressure sensors. finally.

so its more of a blessed by akai solution rather then akai designe and produced solution. thats fine by me. Hopefully this set will last longer then the pads we have now. Is newer mpc1000 s going to be produced with this fix or what. And what are we going to do with the old pads? We shoud come up with a nifty diy project turning them into something usefull.

I wonder if there would be a way to mount them externally and use them control pad bank B or something

could be handy for live use - probably hard to do though

it'll most certainly last longer. the sensors are 100% self contained.
i have no idea whether or not akai will ship these with their fix installed.
as far as using those pads you've still got, most definitely hang on to them. if you ever do any home electronics stuff, or has a kid/sibling who's into it, they will LOVE them.

it's a pressure sensor, after all, and they're nifty.

I'm actually kind of hoping that Akai doesn't start shipping with the upgrade pre-installed. It'll give those of us who buy it a little bit of an advantage should we ever decide to sell the MPC on ebay or something.

Give the buyers some extra incentive.

i would beat this thing into a pile of rusted metal, splintered plastic and dry rotten rubber before i'd sell it haha

For those who aren't as emotionally attached to their MPC as you, though -- it would be nice for them to have that bonus. Plus they could feel all smug that they have the baller ass pads when everyone else is stuck with that other garbage

Plus if Akai starts shipping them with the new pads, I will just feel like they ripped off us original buyers even more.

id agree on the feel ripped part. then again it would be immoral to sell products if you have a fix for it already.Its one thing to do a huge construction failiure and sell them with easy dying pads and whole another to thing to sell them when you sit on a improved design. I find it very odd that akai havent pop their heads out on the whole improved pad issue. id grab a gun if i had buyed a new 1000 for hard eaarned cash and a week in the pads started dying. Then you learn the bastords had a solution for it all along. That ll drive one mad.

you are right its an upgrade. akai could sell the new mpc s in old pad and new pad versions selling the units with older pads with a lower price. I m guessing that it will happen when pigs fly though.

So wat is the manufacture date for the bad batch of pads. I brought mine this week (same day i joined the forums) Should i be expectin any problems off gate.

funny thing is after i read this entire thread (yes all the way from page one) my pads seemed harder. I might as well go ahead and buy it along wit some ram 16mb is breakin my heart.
