Korg MicroKorg Keyboard

What are y'all thoughts on the

Korg MicroKorg Analog Modeled Synth/Vocoder Keyboard.

I am thinking of copping one,

I Produce Reggae Music, Hip Hop, Rap and R&B.

I use a Mpc 2000Xl and a TurnTable, for my productions.

P.S. If this is not recommended for these productions please don't hesitate to tell what keyboard would be best for the productions.

I'm not sure. I have a problem with it having a "genre" knob, it also seems pretty hard to program.

What kind of sounds do you want? The sounds in the microkorg are synthetic, no realistic sounds at all, so if you're after lush strings and pianos, you'd better look somewhere else.

Like digital_bastard said, the sounds are limited with the MicroKorg. It's virtual analog so everyone says the sounds are very warm. I think a lot of them are for dance or techno. It has some great bass sounds tho. (Some=2 or 3) I mean basslines right out the box! Great for hip-hop, but you'll probably miss the piano, strings, and horns when making R&B tracks.

Also if you're a good keyboardist, you'll probably hate the small keys.

Yeah I bought one despite the fact that it has a little genre knob, that is mad corny when you think about it... I prolly shoulda saved for a ms2000r instead but actually it fits nicely in my little home setup because it's so small... it sounds dope... good fi di youth dem

It is not a bad keyboard but personally I found alot of the sounds to be useless to me and it has to be tweaked properly to make anything I'd use... I am personally really digging the alesis ION. I want one, badly!

I picked up the MicroKorg for the Vocoder, it's pretty sweet for the Price.
It has a couple of good bass sounds too, and some of the presets are good for Electro Funk.
The Genre knob is kinda weak, and you can only use one sound at a time.
But over all it's good for the price.

The other thing that bugs me is when you program your own patch you have to write it over a preset don't you? There are no blank pads to put your patches in that I could tell...

yeah, like they said. i definitely like it though. before getting it you should already expect the kind of sounds it has. gives u some nasty @ss bass, synths and strings. then there's other odd fx type $hit. it has tons of sounds u can use though, regardless of the genre knob. i'd recommend gettin it AND another board with more "lush" sounds.

seems like everyone wants one of these cos they heard that neptunes uses is or cos madlib used one but folks need to research more.

cos ima get a synth soon but when i do ima go for the k-station as far as i see the novation shits on the korg.

better look again Jpeg.....novation may look better put personally I think novation is Shiet. The Microkorg has been overpopularized for no particular reason but at least it has a proven synth prosessor(the same as the Ms2000). I just dont like Novation personally, but your right there are other options out there.

Wow the k-station shit?, thats cool depends on what type of stuff u wanna make but i compared the sound of both units in the shop and korg lost that fight.

Plus novation got a better interface, another point to make just cos something has proven use in the hip hop world dont mean other equipment cant do the job better, i think peeps just wanna go with what they heard some else uses but peeps need to find they own path.

I'm no fan on novation, or korg VA for that matter. Don't like the sounds. I do like the nord series though. Lot's of knobs and crisp filters.

Im loving the Nord series Digital Bastard.....I gots me a Micromodular and love it.....

So can anyone recommend a good module or board in the $400 range that will give you sounds comparible to the Micro Korg? I have been thinking about copping the Korg Electribe AMkII. It's a bit cheaper (around $200) than the MK, but I don't know how it sounds. The extra $ could pay for a controller keyboard. There are no good stores around me. Has anyone played with this? Could it be a solution for cats who want to MK sound, but not the wack keyboard?
