I been thinking of purchasing the Projectmix when I cop Logic for my future computer. I've notice that most people don't have that particular surface. Is there a reason why?? Is the sound card good?? Any good or bad experiences with the Projectmix??

Not got any experience of it myself - but there was a guy over at the Digidesign users forum - he was using it with Pro Tools, but he gives it a kind of overall review - not just specific to PT,

Here's the link:

Hope this helps: - his is the last entry on the page by the way - a guy called 'indiecodemonkey'

I have one, and have no complaints.

Just don't expect to be getting top of the line pre-amps and converters with it. I think it's quality is pretty damn close to the 002's and 003's. Actually, I think the converters are actually better, while the pre-amps are pretty equal.

I use outboard pre-amps alot with mine, so most of the time I'm bypassing the PMix's pre-amps.

But I am certainly glad I got it...It's a great control surface and a good interface, and I paid about 900 for mine--NEW. I'm waiting for Black Lion Audio to start modding them, and I'll send mine in...But eventually, I'll probably get an Apogee and just use the PRojectMix as a control surface/way to use Pro Tools

BTW, I use Pro Tools, and sometimes Cubase, with it, so I can't speak on how well it works with Logic. But I'm sure it's just as well.

is it possible to use the project mix as a control surface for pro tools-le like a command 8

yeah - it is. It'll work as a control surface only under LE - If you want to use it as a full audio interface AND control surface - you have to be running Pro Tools M-Powered.

Thanks for the link. I read the post and I guess it depends on what your recording?? I think I'd just use it to track out the beats from the MPC into the computer. I don't care too much about micing up a drum set. Anything for me would be an upgrade though considering what I have now (tascam 788).

my beefs with the project mix:

1. the midi is loose
2. pre's are not the best quality

as a control surface it rocks though

Damn.. you forreal?? The ProjectMix?

That's awesome, My boy said he called a while ago and they told him they plan on doing them in the future, but not yet... If you've already got yours done, shit, I'll send mine in tomorow to get done.

Did you really notice a nice improvement?

I'm mainly looking for better converters, rather than pre-amps, but I guess if the pre-amps are that much better too, I''ll start using them...

yessir, and the difference was huge. the preamps are usable now, i've used them a couple of times tracking my mpc and some vocals
they did a great job on the unit.
