Do we have to assign each pad to each out ?????? why cant i just assign each out to a track on the mpc ???? I Think that would be a more logical way, how about if you are using a sound on that pad for more than one program.... just doesnt make sense.. Can someone please teach me somenthin i dont know. THANKS

If I'm not mistaken, in the manual it says you can assign 4 individual mono tracks to the 4 individual outs.

^^ can u post what page , cause i only read pads and it has to be assigned via mixer page.

The 4 aux outs are mainly intended to hook up external effects. In that regard, you want sounds (pads) to be sent to aux outs, not tracks, so the effect is part of the sound. Example: your external Lexicon plate verb can fatten your snare, not muddy your bass.

^^i get that idea, but im just tryin to get the eastiest way to dump each track to protools where i'll be using my effects plug ins. I just think it a bigger hassle located which pad each sample is rather that going track to track...

There's no right or wrong way to do the output thing, but when tracking you can make multiple sounds go to the same output. Let's say you put your kicks on one and the snare on another and the hats on another and the bassline on another.... so you can isolate the separate frequencies when tracking/mixing.

what he is asking is very simple to me....he wants to know how do you assign say, tracks 1-4 to aux outs 1,2,3 and 4....so he can dump tracks faster into pro-tools than dumping one track at a time from the main output...hell, i wanna know too! i dont see it anywhere in the manual

even my old asr-x pro could send individual track outs to aux outs...all you had to do was assign your tracks to your outputs and if it was track one going to output one, you turned your balance to the left...if it was track 2 going to output 2 , you turned your balance to the left, and vice-versa...the mpc1000 doesn't do this?

the panning thing it does (2 stereo outputs, which can be made into 4 mono by panning it left or right). about the tracks thing i''m not sure.
best of luck to you.

I don't think Akai had "track dumping" in mind when they designed the aux outs. Because of the shortcomings in the relatively simple Global Effects (no global LPF, no sweepable effects, no syncable LFOs, etc.) I think of the aux outs as a way to send *individual pads* to the aux outs to apply external FX easily... but not as a way to dump tracks. You setup the aux outs in the Mixer page (Pad 8) on the L/OUT tab, and the assignments are done on a pad-by-pad basis, not a track-by-track basis.

If your tracks have fairly isolated sounds, that is Track 1 is kick, Track 2 snare, etc., then you can effectively dump Track 1 by setting the Kick (Pad 2?) to Aux 1 in the mixer, and the Snare (Pad 6?) to Aux 2, etc. If you have a bassline you probably have a Bass Program with *many* pads mapped to bass samples... you'll have to go into that Bass Program and assign each-and-every-pad, by hand, one-at-a-time, to Aux 3 (or wherever). A royal pain, but it can be done. What's even "worse" is that when you assign the pads to the Aux outs, you can't hear them anymore! (Unless you're monitoring the Aux outs with an external mixer). So you'll have to assign all the outputs back to ST to hear them after you're done. Or, just turn off the Akai and reload the non-assigned pads when you reboot.

By the way, the settings you make on the Mixer page (including aux assignments) are stored in the Program when you save it... so if you save your Bass program after you assign all the outs, then they will be assigned to those same aux outs the next time you load it.

I think you'll find that assigning Aux outs for the purpose of dumping tracks is far more trouble than it's worth.

how come i remember once when i checked the mixer settings of a track it was different when i changed the track again and went back to mixer.... could it be that each track has its own mixer page????? if that was the case then i would assign each pad in track one to output one.... can someone please verify this or just call me crazy..

The mixer settings are stored with the Program assigned to the Track... and since each Track can have a different Program, it "appears" that each Track has its own mixer page. You're actually looking at the Program's mixer... the Track itself doesn't have a mixer.

Try this... select Track 1 on the MAIN page and then go into the MIXER. Change something on the mixer page, like change the OUT for Pad A01 from ST to 12 (the Aux 1/2 output). Now go back to the MAIN page and select a different Program on Track 1. Look at the MIXER page again and you'll see that the Pad A01 settings have changed. If you go back to the original Program on Track 1 again, your Aux 1/2 settings have returned.

I don't believe the manual says where the mixer settings are stored. It took me a while to figure out they were in the Program and not the Track.

I have really come to conclude that Akai's motivation on design on the 1K is for live application. this explains the effect out situation.

I use a multi-tracking program as well. I get past the limitations by just recording all my tracks using the solo function. Takes a little longer, and not as convienent, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

totally makes sense. It's too bad, because with just a little effort the box could also have been a killer multi-tracker. I often wish the box had TR-style rhythm programming, but at the least I wish there was some way to "see" the data in your tracks other than with the hideously verbose Seq Edit mode. What musician can really get a good idea of what they've got by looking at endless lists of MIDI events? That is like 1985 technology there. They've got that really nice graphical display, with graphical waveform editing, zoom in/out capability, etc. but you can only see your music data by looking at "core dumps". I'm not asking for staff music notation or anything... but a piano-roll style editor wouldn't be out of the question, or even something that just showed boxes for measures.

Sometimes I have these "flashbacks" that I'm actually recording on an old Fostex multitracker cassette deck!

that's a great idea too.
