Logic Pro changes the swing of my MPC??

Hi everyone.. not sure if I can get help here but I figured it is worth a try.

I have my MPC 2000 connected via MIDI CLOCK to LOGIC PRO , so when I push play in Logic, the mpc will play synchronized to whatever tempo Logic is at. Obviously I keep Logic at the same tempo as the MPC so the sync sounds right.

Now when I manually push play on MPC on a track that has heavy swing (66% on the hihats), it sounds right, everything is swinging properly. If I stop the MPC and use Logic to trigger the MPC, the swing changes! It is less of a swing and sounds more like the Logic quantize engine, but it doesn't make sense because it is coming from the MPC . I only noticed this problem recently because normally it isn't as noticable, but once more swing is applied it becomes quite apparent.

If anyone has any info or suggestions that would be very helpful!

It's possible in my opinion. Especially when you use midi clock to sync. I never had such problem, cause I always use midi time code to sync. It's more reliable.
If you have that option, try it and see if the issue occurs when using midi time code.

You were 100% correct! So the lesson is , if you use Logic Pro (or possibly other audio programs) , do not use Midi Clock to sync if you want to retain the feel and swing of the MPC on the recorded tracks....

This is true. Thats why I don't track in Pro Tools anymore. Logic usually has better midi timing so it preserves more of the groove, but the MPC has swing settings that Logic doesn't have. I can't remember where I got it from but I have a Logic template that has all of the MPC 3000 swing settings at 1/16 and 1/8. I think I found it here:

The way I learned to do it in PT is to just create two bars of high hats in front of your song, and instead of using clock or time code, just hit play on the MPC, record all the passes into the computer, muting the previous passes. Then just line up all of the hats at the sample level in software and call it a day. It takes longer but it does preserve the feel better than anything else.

Maybe you are using mpc as master then ? It wouldn't cause any trouble in that case.
