Weird problem reading .wav files on MPC1000

I am trying to use Recycle to do my initial chopping of loops with the intention of importing my chopped wavs into the MPC1000

I have noticed a very weird problem to do with .wav filenames and the MPC 1000.

1) Chop a sample in Recycle and select option 'Export' as a wav with 'Transmit as one Sample' switched off.

2) Recycle automatically creates a separate .wav file for each chop.
Recycle gives each file the same filename as the parent sample and adds a number to make the name unique e.g.
DorseyDrum 001.wav
DorseyDrum 002.wav and so on

3) When I load these files onto my flash and then try to load them into my MPC1000 only 1 DorseyDrum.wav file can befound.

The interesting thing is that the filename in the MPC is 'DorseyDrum.wav' and not 'DorseyDrum 001.wav'.

4) I then went back the original chopped wav files on my PC and renamed them along the lines of 'DorseyDrums-K.wav' i.e making the names unique but using letters instead of numbers and removing all spaces.

5) Now the individual chop files can be loaded and recognised by the MPC.

It seems to be that the the MPC1000 doesn't like spaces in filenames?

Has anyone else come across this issue? Perhaps there is a fix on the Recycle side (maybe you can change default file name settings) but otherwise it's a real pain to have to rename 16 files each time you want to import.

from what i remeber reading it only reads 12 characters and displays 8, so long names with 001 ect at the end get read as the same sample and a space counts as a character. someone who know for sure may post tho

i just name my shit like

k1 (kick)
s1 (snare)
hc1 (hit hat closed)
ho1 (hi Hat Open)
Sp1 (Sample)
bk (drum Brake)

Ect..... you get the idea

Thanks guys....you are reaffirming what I already suspected. The suggested workaround of manually renaming the wav files will do the trick.

The annoying thing is that if you use Recycle to create an .AKP file and then change the names of the sample wavs the .AKP file won't work. So this means I can't convert AKP into my MPC1000 directly.

All this bother has made me look again at the Global Pad Program function in JJ OS. It works really well so now I just rename my Reycyled wavs and load them manually using Global Pad Edit. It's working pretty good for me.
