New to MPC1000, need a bit of midi help

Sup yall, so I'm brand new to the mpc game, stepping up from using FL Studio. I'm trying to get the midi working with the mpc1000 and my motif. I have the current settings but I'm not getting any sound at all...any help?

MPC - Midi out to keyboard midi in/vice versa
Type: MIDI, Pgm: No. 1, Midi: 1A

All Midi settings on my motif are set to channel 1.

I'm a complete newb to the mpc and midi so I could definitely be overlooking something pretty simple, but I can't see anything I'm missing after checking out the manual and some posts on here, hope someone can help!

What would you like to do? Are you trying to record midi data into the MPC? Would you like the MPC to control the Motif? Or vice versa? Would you like the MPC pads to trigger the Motif patches/sounds? Or vice versa?

I'm looking to record the midi data into the mpc. All I really want to use the Motif for is the sounds, I'd like to make the mpc kinda the center of it all, using the pads to trigger the keyboard sounds and sequencing everything in the mpc. Appreciate any help...

So currently, I don't have a mixer setup at all. All I have is the mpc connected to my monitors via 1/4 cables and motif via midi cables (midi out to keyboard in and vice versa). It looks like all the settings are correct on my mpc (type:midi, pgm: no 1, midi: 1a) and on the motif (everything set to channel 1), yet no sound at all when I hit the keys or the pads.

Everything's fine when I'm runnin the mpc alone, but when I try to get the midi crankin I get silence. Any ideas? Do I need to a have a mixer in order to get the midi workin?

so you have no audio cables running out of your Motif? - Just the MPC?

It's important to understand that MIDI cables are for information ONLY - you get no audio sent through them.

Without the Motif hooked up with audio cables - then you won't hear anything at all from it.

You need to buy a mixer - hook the Motif and the MPC up to it - then - hook the mixer up to your monitors, that will let you hear both at the same time.

Or you could use the Input Thru function and monitor it that way I suppose - but it sounds to me as if it's not a MIDI problem you have - but a basic audio set up problem.

I just looked at my sweet graphic and realized its a teeny bit decieving.

So the audio OUTS (Left and Right) of the MPC and the synth go to the audio INS of the mixer. Then the audio OUTS of the mixer go to the INS of your speakers.



Two ways to check to see if your midi handshake is recording data. 1. Load up your mpc with no sounds whatsoever. Then record some notes from your synth. Then check in step edit to see if there is any data there.


2. Record some midi data from your synth. Check step edit to see if the data is there. Then Plug the Audio OUTS of your SYNTH into the RECORD IN of your MPC. Then press record start, then press play on your sequence. If your MPC is truly controlling the synth it should automatically trigger your synths sounds.


Basically with midi, you can keep fu*king around with it til u figure it out. Even though its frustrating thats half the fun!
