I agree. and I think the "recognizable name is key" cuz there are plenty of ppl that make there living doing music but aren't known.

like the 3rd string on a football team, decent money, just no fame :)

haha.
who would admit to being a pro if they had anything to lose? also , some (unfairly ambitious?) guys may purport to being pro - just to feel like they're getting somewhere here.

but hey - Hereo, props, i notice u often drag up interesting/amusing lines of discussion, makes browsing this flat world a whole lot more lumpy! heheh

I was about to say the same thing. But I remembered the Incredible Hulk was Dr. Bruce Banner. :)

They changed the first name to "David" for the old Bill Bixby TV series. The rumor had something to do with the name "Bruce" being considered too "gay"-associated at the time.

How did that line go in the show's intro? "Don't make me angry [with this crappy operating system] Akai Pro, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry..."

Or something like that....

I like old Banner stuff, Crooked Lettaz(Kamikaze is a wonderful mc), and the first two Mississippi records(Fire Water Boyz was good, too).

The "Like a Pimp" beat is one of my all-time favorite minimal hip-hop beat, that bass drum knocks...

My publicist has given me the go-ahead to say that I do indeed have JJOS installed on my MPC1000.

if i dont have a job, live in a big house with a decent car and have enough money to pimp hoes on the regular, does that make me a pro? what if ive done beats for shonuff, block ent, grand hustle, dray from das efx, chinkie brown, b-phatz?

i think i beat banner to it. :P

if you make a living off of music doesn't make you a pro- and vise versa- some of the best beat makers have a day job- because to them it's an art and not just a hustle- someday their creative talents might pay off- but beatmaking is an art- first and foremost- if it makes you money then good- but as soon as you start relyin on beatmaking to pay the bills- the soul more often than not is immediately drained from the music- if you got to stress "is this song gonna sell" then your creativity is severely inhibited

So since a few people here apparently make a decent sum from beats, might i ask how you guys got your foot in the door?
