Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By GregP Sat Oct 20, 2007 4:10 pm
1) How do I quantize (MPC 2000)?

2) I dont know if this is possible, but I want to load in my kick sounds, make a pattern, then load in my snare sounds and overdub them with the kick, but everytime I load in a new floppy it just overwrites my last pattern with the new sounds, so how can I get 2 separte patterns with 2 different floppies?

Hate to break it to you my man, but you can only load one program in at a time with the 2000 rather than the XL which lets you load up to 4 programs at once. Shit sucks in a way, I have a 2000 though and I wouldnt trade it for nething. I mean if you wanted a diff snare you could always find one in a sample and sample it then chop it. Other than thats its one program.

1) Highlight the TIMING field in the main window and press the OPEN WINDOW button. There you will be able to set your quantize(or TIMING CORRECT as it calls it ).

2) The MPC2000 only allows you to use one program at a time so, you need to load all the samples you want to use onto the same program.

thanks, but can I load individual kicks from a whole pack of kicks? I cant load like 1 or 2 kicks and assign them to the pads and then load in a few snares, instead of loading the whole program?

Yea but all the sounds like dissapear, if I load a disk of kicks then make a pattern, then load the snares, those kicks will now be snare sounds and if a play the pattern it will be replaced with the snares.

Don't load the entire program, just the sounds that you require off the disk. Then save all sounds onto a new disk once you are done.

yea, you gotta load the individual sounds, man. and load them onto EMPTY pads. not pads that already have sounds on them

I have a 2000 classic, here's what I do when I want sounds in two different programs.
1. Go to Disk Mode and load both PGM files (both programs will be loaded into memory)
2. Now go to Program Mode, highlight the program field and scroll to the program you want to modify.
3. hit the pad you want to change.
4. down arrow to the sound field then scroll through the sounds and set it to the one you want to replace that pad.
5. Go back up to the program name field and press open window.
6. Give it a new name.
7. Go back to disk mode and save program with all sounds and hit do it.

I'm writing this all from memory, so it may not be completely correct. Good luck.

I feel it's easier to load your own sounds from floppy when you have a zip drive to save them to. If you have a zip drive you can save a few floppy's to one zip disk, then pick what sounds you want and load them to the pads individualy. I would suggest getting a zip drive. If you do make sure you don't get a parallele drive because they don't work with the mpc. Get the one with the 5 & 6 switch on the back and the on/off/termination switch on the back next to the 5/6 switch. Unless you have have blank formatted floppy's then save the sounds you want onto one of those.
