Can JJ OS do this...?

.. after I sample a sound, copy it, assign the copies to all the pads. can I go into TRIM mode and trim a sound, then touch a pad and have the display show the trim status of that pad I just touched so I can TRIM that sound..then go back to the other sounds by touching the pads and trimming the waves?

Without having to cursor up and scroll through like 25 sounds while losing the feeling just to reach that other sound?

The Akia OS doesn't let me do that, thats why I stick to my 3000 cause I can go back and forth adjusting chops while just touching pads..which doesn't matter cause with the ZIP drive I'll lose half of it all anyway lol.

Seriously if JJ's OS can allow me to do that in TRIM mode I would get it right away.

pressing pads in trim mode just plays the sample.

however, to achieve what you're looking for, try this:

while in trim mode, just hit mode+program, hit the pad you want to trim the sample for, and then hit mode+trim to go back into trim again. the sample for the pad that you hit while in program mode should be selected in trim mode. i do this all the time.

pretty sure it works the same way with the akai OS. if you have more than one layer on a pad though, ii think t's only going to send you to the trim screen for the sample from the first layer. i only layer drums though, so this isn't an issue for me.

hey thanks for the reply! can't wait to try that when i get out of work. thing is that i need to be able to play the sounds back and forth with 2 fingers so i can rechop and arrange loops. so just like the 3000 i need to be able to keep auditioning all of them while hearing when the ends and beginnings are with out interruptions.. so jj's doesn't do that? how can we get him to do that?

also, i need to trim with the pitch shifted! does jj's do this? its pretty crucial seriously.

i wouldn't expect this to be implemented. the 2500 isn't the 3000, so there are some differences.

in the trim screen pads 13-16 serve specific purposes and wouldn't be able to play what's on their pad. 13 play's the loop if one's set, pad 16 plays the entire sample, pad 14 i believe plays everything up to the end point your editing, and pad 15 everything after. all other pads play from start point to end point. i wouldn't expect them to switch it so that hitting a pad switches the sample that's being edited to what's assigned to that pad.

I see what you're saying. I don't see the need for it though since you can hold the pad down to see where your sample ends, which is where your loop would end. Fine I'll live I guess. But would it be a big deal to be able to Trim while the pitch is shifted?? I would seriously pay JJ what ever he wanted in exchange for those options over the current pad setting on my 2500.

Hows this for a work flow idea. If I sample a sound and name it RED. Then load 30 drum sounds after that, then make copies of "RED" to RED2 RED3 and RED4.. while I Trim the original sound RED, then go to trim the other "RED" sounds I must scroll through all 30 drum sounds to reach RED2, 3 and 4. while forgetting what I wanted to take from the other "RED" samples (work flow). I know this isn't the 3000, but the other MPCs alphabetize whatever sounds you add to the program as you go along. Bad enough I can't hit a pad to change the sample, at least make it easier to fetch the sample. Does anyone actually communicate to JJ? Or is he just this mystery guy over sees that delivers unofficial OSs and upgrades to them..

i agree that the lists should be alphabetized. i'm not sure why they're not.

you can trim with the sample tuned. you just have to tune it in trim mode rather than program mode. go sample list and press open window. the field in the new window next to the sample name that looks like this: "+00.00" is the tune.

Woa really? You know, thats a bit shameful on my part that you had to make me aware of that rather then me have learned it from the manual myself. Not to sound lazy cause I did read the entire manual, I guess I missed that, but thank you very much for that does allow me to implement a few of my usual techniques to making tracks.

Maybe JJ might add a something like alphabetizing the sounds in TRIM mode to his next upgrade. Take care..

i've read the whole manual too, and there's still some things people point out to me every so often.
