Help!! bent pins in my compact flash reader!

Put Ye OLd new OS in there, in a folder Called OS so easy to find amoungst the rubble

Ok i've heard conflicting answers from people here and vst. As I've previously stated my Mpc1000 running non-JJ Os has a broken pins in the CF slot. I purchased a hard drive to work around this but will not format or mount. MPC see's hard drive as full. People say I need to update my OS (would love too, but i'm told CF is the ONLY way to update.) Heres what Nicholas from VST sent me:

The way the MPC1000 USB works is that your computer recognizes the CF card as a storage device. Unfortunately if the CF card is not working then your computer won’t see the MPC. I’ve seen some people on the mpc forums tell others that they just need to hook up a hard drive but that is not the case.

If your pins are broken and cannot be bent back into place then you need to replace the CF card slot PCB which is $120 and in stock. You can order it from our store, or call the number below to order. Let me know if you have any more questions.

So am I to assume that the ONLY way of updating my OS (and formatting said hard drive) is to purchase the new CF reader??

DN3 said that his computer recognizes his HD and we have basically the same problem. What OS are you running DN3 and if anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

I was using the Official Akai OS 2.1. Then I upgraded to J.J. OS 4x using the technique I learned from this thread. I installed the Toshiba MK4026GAX 40GB Hard Drive over a year ago, and I haven't had any problems since.

I don't know if I read somewhere that if you had any official Akai OS before version 2.1, it wouldn't let you load any OS in the Load screen. You would HAVE to load from the memory card. I could be wrong, though.

Did you update your OS before or after you bent the pins? If it was after, how did you update via hard drive?

well, I had Akai OS 2.1 before i bent my pins. So i was told that i could update or load OS's by going to the screen, then choosing "hard Drive" from the load from option, then pressing "do it" would flash the old OS, then the MPC would reboot to the new OS you chose. And damned if it didn't work!

This makes my CF card reader useless - unless going back to an Akai OS before 2.1 won't allow you to load form a hard drive. But who the hale is going back to those OS's???
