EXTERNAL SCSI ZIP 100 & MPC 3000 LE PROBLEMS!

I can't get my MPC to activate the EXTERNAL SCSI ZIP 100 drive i've connected, I've tried AUTO, 5 & 6 as the device ID's, i've tried both connectors on the reverse of the drive, i've checked the drive works elsewhere...i've tried tiimeout for SCSI scan from 20 secs to 99..Nothing!!!

I'm OS 3.11...

You need to FORMAT the disk before you can make it ACTIVE.

The "ACTIVATE/MAKE SCSI ACTIVE" function searches the connected SCSI chain for the first valid MPC60/MPC3000 file system signature and subsequent partition.

If there isn't one detected ... The machine doesn't find your drive/cart.

So ... with that in mind.

Can your MPC3000 format the ZIP cart OK

If it can then the "ACTIVATE/MAKE SCSI ACTIVE" functions will work fine.

I tried to format the disk before but the disk must have been faulty!
I just tried another & the 'this may take up to 10 minutes' message appeared!

I set the SCSI ZIP ID @ #6 on the back & Termination is ON....MPC PGM MAKER is now loaded onto my G4 Powerbook with a USB ZIP & i can Master & chop Audio up in RECYCLE e.t.c & save to the disk i formatted in the MPC, which i then can load into the MPC as a PGM....the only thing now is when the disk formatted in the MPC appears on my computer it only has the capacity of one of the sectors (you choose the size of these when formatting the disk in the MPC) and the largest is 20 something MB, Looks like i'll just have to keep a spare ZIP disk as a MASTER storage disk & limit my audio to the largest sector for each PGM...GENIUS!

I'm off for some HEAVY HITTERS!!

On the whole issue of the ZIP transfer issue.

Search out posts by HOMERSHINES ... in this and other AKAI forums on YAHOO and at MIDICASE.

HOMERSHINES passed some good advice about this very issue.

...and for the time being ... It is advice to follow.

keep the mpc disk away from the computer, just use that as your samples/sequence disk, then use another disk just for transfers from pc to mpc then save that to the master disk.
